The Iron Lady and Nine News

A news story about the premiere of The Iron Lady is followed a few moments later by -an ad for The Iron Lady.

I was watching Nine News last night when a story came up on the premiere of the Iron Lady film in London with Meryl Streep.

Sure it’s entertainment news but for 6:00? Well maybe it’s the silly season, and there’s not much going on. But the infiltration of film premieres, fashion launches and more into commercial news is concerning.

However, it was what happened next was even more concerning.

During the commercial break, up popped an ad for a movie. Yep, The Iron Lady.

Coincidence? Clever timing from traffic co-ordinators? I really have no idea.

Streep looks pretty good, though….

  1. I belive there is already too much commercial influence in the news.

I remember a couple of years ago when Virgin blue had a computer meltdown at melbourne airport and many flights were cancelled and the caoas lasted for days. Channel 10 news and 9’s Today show had reporters doing live crosses inside the virgin terminal but channel 7’s sunrise had a reporter standing outside the Qantas/Jetstar terminal with a jetstar sign in clear view in backround. She manged to do an informative report on virgin’s I.T woes but also reminded viewers that Jetstars fights were unaffected and running smoothly. Sunrise has a commercial agreement with Jetstar……go figure.
