Acclaimed Australian drama series The Slap will have its US premiere next month.
The ABC drama will premiere at 10pm on February 15th on cable network DirecTV. In the past, DirecTV has also screened Underbelly.
It has already sold to Canada, UK, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, other territories in Eastern Europe and Asia.
The series was produced by Matchbox Pictures, majority owned by NBCU.
The show is expected to feature strongly at next week’s AACTA Awards.

Great to hear it will debut there soon! I just hope they don’t try to do an American version.

Just to add, The Slap will air on DirecTV’s general entertainment channel, Audience Network. It’s kinda like Foxtel/Austar’s Fox8 here. They also screened ABC1’s Rake in the US.
DirecTV is a direct broadcast satellite provider, not a cable network.
I think it should hold up well. It had some stand out episodes that ventured into cinematic territory.
This show was sooooo lame. What’s the fuss all about??? It was full of sex nudity and foul language….or was this the “good acting” which many are rambling on about????
Hmmm….it will be interesting to see how this Aussie thing goes over with the Americans…we are the same….but also very different….I talk to many other countries each day….
Well done, there was a lot of excellent acting in this show.
