A new coat of paint is coming…

Psst! The new-look TV Tonight is just coming, as soon as the paint is dry.

Ok guys, version 3.0 of TV Tonight is imminent -just in time for the ratings year.

It’s been just over 3 years since the site was refreshed, so it’s time to add a few extra features.

All the things you are familiar with will remain: News, Programming, Pay TV, Reviews, Ratings etc. Your feedback during the recent TV Tonight Awards has assisted in this.

I’m very aware that we are often reluctant to embrace change so I have sought to update without going overboard.

The new site will also require you to register an ID with a valid email in order to participate in Comments. I believe this will help lift the tone of online discussions. It goes without saying that your email address remains private. Your cookies should remember you so that you don’t have to keep logging in.

There are bound to be a few hiccups in the transition, so the site will soft-launch in Beta mode.

And lastly, right across next week I am publishing the third annual Programmers’ Wrap -a series of major interviews with Programmers from all the networks. These will be extensive articles, chockful of news and insights about the year ahead.

TV Tonight remains the only platform in Australia -in any medium- that offers these back to back interviews with the people in charge of our schedules. They have a lot to say and there are scoops that have not been revealed elsewhere and plenty of hints too.

By the time everything is unwrapped I trust you will continue to value the site and our shared passion for all things telly.

Cheers, David

  1. Aw Steven, I wanted to say that! So I’ll just have to go with “How excitment!” (Thankyou Nine promo dept).

Looking fwd to the I/Vs with the Programmers. Hope you asked about annoying tactics such as running late and cynically programming similar programs against those of another network and, more importantly, I hope that you received honest answers. I know, I can dream.

    btw, I like the purple.

  2. Hi David and A. Which e-mail address would you like? I can be a 21yo blonde bombshell in California, or an unemployed coalminer in Wales or one of many others that are “one-offs”. Use once then forget. Keeps my real address away from spammers.

  3. Sounds interesting David, can’t wait to see the new look.

Will logging in mean comments get posted automatically?

I’m looking at upgrading my site and might need to ask you a few questions via email…

  4. Hi David,

Re. requiring registering for an ID, would it perhaps be possible to use Facebook & Twitter logins as well? I believe there are plugins for WordPress that will let you do this, and they’re a pretty effective way of verifying identity.

Usually, requiring people to sign up for an account on something takes a couple of minutes, and that requires a Lot of tenacity to get people to post a comment. It’ll probably just result in people not commenting at all, and that would be a shame.

  5. I’m excited for this!! I remember back when this website was orange and used Google Blogger for the theme. That was 2007. XD

It’s been said before, but well done David! This website is fantastic and the programmer interviews were excellent last year – look forward to reading them this year, and also seeing the new features!

  6. I don’t mind change for the better but I guess for those of us that never use e-mail then this is goodbye from me. Thank you for this site but if I have to register then I will just be a lurker again. I love this site and I will miss being able to say what I think and tell you about anything I find. Good luck in the future.
