Push-up contest… now who’s copying who?

After Karl's on-air push-ups, Kochie turns around and does the same thing. Let's sort this out like gentlemen....

Copycat claims are running wild this week… new sets, weight-loss shows, and now push-ups on morning breakfast shows.

This morning Karl Stefanovic performed 25 push-ups on Today at 8:23am.

The Sunrise boys, Mark Beretta and David Koch also did push-ups, at 8:50am.

After a week of talk about cloning Seven, Nine insiders are now pointing the finger in the other direction.

Sunrise EP Michael Pell told TV Tonight, “Believe it or not, Kochie doesn’t watch Today.”

“Accusations of copying are a bit rich coming from Nine – the home of emulation. What’s that phrase? Pot? Kettle?””

In fact both shows were “copying” or reacting to Michelle Obama doing on-air push-ups alongside Ellen DeGeneres.

Maybe it’s time Sunrise and Today teams had a push-up contest to settle this squabble once and for all?

  1. “I pushed up with Sunrise, Today!”. “I wake up with Sunrise, Today!”. “I watch Sunrise, Today!” Just can’t see set and logo differences.

    But spotting the one difference. Kochie challenged Brettz or was it the other way? Karl challenged…? Couldn’t Wikins or Fordham be man enough to challenge him!

  3. I was fortunate enough not to witness Sun-rinses poor imitation. Karl was absolutely hilarious and one of the reasons Today is my choice for breakfast. Sydney and Melbourne have the right idea, now if only the other states got some taste.

  4. @Trix – Brad Pitt was on Daily Show last night, which as you know is re-run the following morning. I’m not a big fan but would rather what Brad then the other guys on the 7 & 9 morning shows.

  8. Just embarrassing for all concerned – presenters, producers, and the viewing audience alike. Breakfast TV with Karl and Kochie is wretch inducing, you need a strong gag reflex when watching these programs.

  9. They didn’t do pushups on ABC News Breakfast, oh that’s right cos they actually tell you the news. But judging by those logos they both look like Sunrise to me.

  13. I’m glad that producers of TV are in contact with you David but honestly doesn’t Mr Pell know to be a bit more diplomatic when describing the opposition??
    He trash talks Nine now but let’s hear his tune years from now when contracts are up for negotiation and his management is shopping him around.

  14. Well there must’ve been some kind of collusion happening. It started out as kochie daring one of his “angels” to do pushups (after covering the ellen obama spot) and then she dared kochie and berrets to do pushups. Was she asked to ask kochie and berrets to do them? I dunno

  17. @Craig, spot on. I’m surprised the presenters can make it around on the set through the fug of testosterone.

    I too get my daily dose of politics and information from Colbert & The Daily Show. Brilliantly funny and informative too. Which program did Brad Pitt appear on?

  20. Pity that Obama’s wife did not do real push ups, she only went part way down whereas Ellen went down further.

    Her arms did not even reach a90 degree angle, what a cheat.

  22. Why don’t the guys just whip them out and be done with it… sorry for the disturbing visual.

    And no I didn’t watch them this morning, had some Colbert Report and Daily Show over breakfast, Brad Pitt was on this morning.
