Danish crime drama The Killing returns to SBS TWO later this month with a new series and a brand new case.
Detective Sarah Lund is back in the critically-acclaimed show, known for its dense plotting, complex characterisation and gritty realism.
Two years after former Detective Inspector Sarah Lund was stripped of her investigative role and transferred to a low-key job in the country, the body of a female lawyer is found murdered in macabre and puzzling circumstances, and Lund’s former boss at Copenhagen police headquarters finds that he has no choice but to call her back to assist with the investigation.
Initially reluctant, Lund soon becomes engrossed with the case. As police grapple with what few clues they possess, newly-appointed Minister for Justice, Thomas Buch, strives to oversee some intricate political negotiations between parliamentary parties over the introduction of a series of new antiterrorism laws.
At the same time, soldier Jens Peter Raben awaits release from the psychiatric ward he was committed to following a nervous breakdown.

Danish TV producers need to watch much less American cable TV and realise the wonders of intrigue and human frailties – that’s the real attractiveness of European TV. Americans’ just don’t get subtly!
@ Kathy – Thanx for that! I love The American version of The Killing ….It’s the best show on tv!!
@jake re ‘(that other cop show with the same title..).
The US version of the Danish crime drama ‘The Killing’ (Season 2) goes to air in the US on the 2nd April so no doubt One will be soon (we hope) after that.
More importantly when does The Killing on Channel one return? (that other cop show with the same title..)
S3 hasn’t aired in Denmark yet.
Thanks for the heads up David, I was wondering some reports say this is S2 but others say S3, where the first 20 eps one season?
The pacing has been a little slow at times but I’m enjoying it as a change from what we’re usually fed. Looking fwd to S2.
After the torture I’ve endured over the last 18 weeks watching this show, once the season final airs next week I’m done with it forever. So overly complex and slow, with 2/3s of the show with the politics and family being horrible, I just want it to see the end and then none of it ever again.
Danish TV producers need to watch some more American cable TV and realise the wonders of 12 episode seasons. I can’t believe how this is “critically-acclaimed”.
