Paging Dr. House ….and other shows missing in action.

What has happened to shows that started new seasons and have seemingly vanished?

A number of long-running programmes appear to have gone missing from our schedules, mostly due to low ratings and networks battling the impact of The Voice.

This is despite networks having previously touted several as Season Returns.

They include:

House,
Criminal Minds,
CSI,
How I Met Your Mother
.

Some of these shows just haven’t returned since Easter non-ratings. What gives?

Many readers continue to ask about a launch date for Once Upon a Time (previously promoted during the Australian Open). And let’s not get started with on-again, off-again plans for Survivor: One World.

Sons of Anarchy on ONE was also scheduled and then yanked.

  1. @Norm: i would also like to see Sports Fever return I hope it returns to any capacity what-so-ever. A good little gem

Also, any word when The Big C is returning to Nine (or Gem, as it aired on it during season 2)? The third season premiered in the US around 3-odd weeks ago,

  2. I would think all networks especially Seven are too afraid to put up the big shows, since nobody can take down the voice. It’s hard to imagine Downtown Abbey being smashes by it. Probably would get 1.2 mil.

    1. Given Seven has a screening of two eps of Downton Abbey next week for Radio 3AW listeners, together with twice-weekly eps of Bones and the cast of Dancing getting slimmer -it’s a pretty safe bet the show will be with us anytime from May 13 onwards….

  3. I’ve already seen White Collar season 3 as I got fed up with Ten taking forever to screen it.
If it wasn’t delivering high enough ratings, I’d suggest screening it on either Eleven, or on
One HD, to replace Burn Notice that’ll finish its 5th season eps soon on One. The Blue Bloods show was also taken off One HD.

Eleven are 3 seasons behind 90210 and would need to screen it in double episodes for 8 months straight, to catch up.

  4. Am I the only one to realise that Once Upon a Time will replace Revenge when the season ends in a few weeks?

Or that Tricky Business will probably end up going against Winners and Losers instead of Rafters, unless it ends up on a Sunday night?

And what is the bet House ends up after Graham Norton on a Saturday night?

Downton Abbey will prob air after DWTS when we get down a few contestants and it can finish at 8:30.

And I am very sad about Drop Dead Diva and White Collar. Put White Collar on Saturday nights after House, after Graham Norton. Drop Dead Diva has now been dropped by 3 networks (9, GO! GEM)!

  5. Maybe Seven could launch Once Upon a Time behind Australia’s Got Talent on Wednesday. It has faced football in America and survived so why not here? Once is the one show i thought would be here by now. I know things change and what not but Tuesdays at 7:30pm opened up and they placed Border Security and The Force there? Why not Once? It could be a great lead in for Rafters. Both are very family type shows despite some of the dark scenes in Once.

  6. Could I also mention Drop Dead Diva…we got I think 3 episodes of series 3 and then nothing….there is also a series 4?!?!?

  7. And those are just the recent MIA shows.

White Collar, The Ex-List (both Ten) and The Moment of Truth (Nine). How many years now since those have been on air.

  8. I know networks can’t show everything but seriously 3 channels a piece and popular (long running) shows still go MIA mid season. Others like Once Upon a Time don’t even get a start despite being heavily promoted, and once again they would why people go else where or just order the DVDs.

  9. Obviously I’m waiting for Fringe and maybe Once Upon a Time. I wonder if they’ll beat the DVD release.

I’ll also admit I’m glad I quit House and Medium because they couldn’t stick with Wednesdays or Thursdays for the shows. I didn’t care if it took 18 months as long as they showed up on the proper and expected day. Oh well.

  10. Speaking of shows getting flicked about and shelved, what happened to Big Bang Theory? Or did we run out of new eps, I haven’t checked.

  11. Fair call on OUAT, they’ve been promoting it heaps without an airdate. If they air it I reckon it won’t be able to sustain much of an audience. I tuned out after 3 episodes, Grimm is a much better series.

Couldn’t care less about Criminal Minds, it’s so dark and miserable I don’t see why anyone would want to watch it. Plus its the same bloody thing every week.

Seven will have plenty of timeslots open in the second half of this year as a lot of their shows only have around 8 episodes left in this season (e.g. Castle). They are probably saving their big shows like Downton and TAR:A for when The Voice finishes in mid June.

  12. Well I have no idea how Media Buyers work but could it have something to do with the soft advertising market?

If a Network can’t manage to find decent long term sponsors of a show then I can imagine them holding off until they do. Yes? No?

  13. I am so sick of the promos for Tricky Business. Put it on already. I hope this final season of House is played out at a reasonable time and not given the same shoddy treatment as Medium.

  14. What is happening to the current first-run Modern Family series once MasterChef starts again? Back on the 1st Jan at 0000 according to Ten’s website – but I’m pretty sure that’s not correct 🙂

  15. The lack of House is extremely annoying. A big thing just happened in one of the current episodes and surprise surprise I got spoiled. Especially considering this is the final season you would think Ten would keep up with it. Yet again the networks demonstrate their lack of programming skills and their inability to figure out multichannels (you can put some of these shows on them and actually offer original programming). Said it plenty of times before, it’s no wonder Australians are such big downloaders.

Oh, and as for HIMYM, they aired a repeat last night, surely a new episode would have been better?

  16. The amount of shows that are continually dropped is getting beyond a joke. House is in its last season so you would think TEN would just get it over and done with instead of continually putting it on the back burner. And don’t get me started on CSI Miami with Nine advertising it’s return for months only to show 2 episodes before it was dropped from the schedule and now everyone is having to read the TV guide carefully to see if new episodes are being shown or just more repeats. This is why I just wait for some shows to start on pay-TV as I know it is will be in the one timeslot from beginning to end of a season.

  17. Now that AGT has been moved to Wednesday, seven should be able to plan the rest of the evening around it. But I doubt Criminal Minds is a good family-friendly fit to follow it any more so that’s out!
