The Shire undergoes production delays

Update: TEN denies alarmist media reports about 'dramality series' and confirms the series is still coming.

There are reports today that indicate ‘dramality series’ The Shire has been pushed back in TEN’s schedule.

The Daily Telegraph reports TEN and Shine was reassessing the program. It reports TEN has been under-whelmed with early footage shot so far and have sent producers back to the drawing board in a bid to spice up the content.

Sutherland Mayor Carol Provan, whose meeting with TEN CEO James Warburton ended at odds, said, “Channel 10 haven’t been very forthcoming with us at all but I have heard from other sources that filming hasn’t really been working out.”

The series has attracted considerable media attention, most of it negative, since a sales reel was leaked online. Some cast also had to be replaced.

TEN says shooting will continue and that the series would be unveiled “to the Australian public when the time is right.”

TV Tonight understands the series has been doing some re-casting following feedback from TEN management, but is still proceeding.

UPDATE: A Spokesperson from TEN said today, “ As recently stated and contrary to recent reports,  filming on The Shire is going well and production continues. We have discovered some very interesting characters and  we’re looking forward to introducing them to the Australian public when the time is right. Stay tuned, audiences will meet the cast later in the year. ”

  1. The SMH says “Network Ten has shrugged off reports that it has removed The Shire from its schedule, saying “audiences will meet the cast later in the year”.”

So The Shire isn’t delayed? And meeting the cast wouldn’t mean some 5-min promo right?

  2. I’m really looking forward to this!

But I don’t understand how people can have such strong opinions about something they haven’t seen. To me that’s incredibly ignorant.

I also can’t believe the oxygen the papers are giving that Pauline Hanson like mayor.

And by the way… Anyone who’s ever worked in television knows that get delayed all the time…

  3. Ten must have known the show was rubbish through their own market research, would tank in 3 or 4 epsiodes and would have done their dough ……. not to mention runing their brand more than it already has been ……

Perhaps they might realise that you cannot have nothing but reality rubbish on a free to air network and not have repurcussions such as poor ratings and lack of confidence from advertisers when you only appeal to one specific demographic, ignoring the rest of the population ……..

  4. Not that this is something that I would like to watch…..but I feel it has just dragged on so long….people are over it before it starts.

  5. Just what we need another Clone of a proven US Show in this case Jersey Shore. It was bad enough close to twenty years ago now They Tried and Failed to produce a 90210 copy known as Heartbreak High which was worse than Tori Spelling’s late fathers original and obviously done on a budget I see the same fate happening here today.

  6. That Gina Rinehart has a positive effect on creativity at all levels in the media. Doesn’t Sarah Murdoch and Gina Rinehart have enough to do?

  7. This is a real shame, I was looking forward to watching soon. Considering that BLB is doing OK for TEN, it is surprising there are delays – you think with all the hype they would want this show on as soon as possible.

  8. Maybe it’s a good reflection on Australia if we can’t find people as idiotic and self centered as the Jersey Shore crew to get a similar show up.

  9. I’m surprised they haven’t thought of giving Snooki, J Wow and The Situation an all expense paid trip the shire.

If they wait too long it risks over exposure and will competition from Big Brother. Maybe it will end up permanently on the shelf next to ‘Class Of’
