Contracts stall for Modern Family cast

Adult cast members are still without contracts with the first table read of the new season scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Adult cast members for Modern Family are still without contracts with the first table read of the new season scheduled to begin on Tuesday (US).

The actors are asking for about $200,000+ per episode, and representatives are expected to meet with 20th Century Fox Television on Monday (US).

Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara are said to be negotiating together to lift above their $65,000 fee, on the back of multiple Emmy nominations. However Ed O’Neill already makes much more than they do.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that sources suggest if no deals are reached by Tuesday, cast members might not attend the scheduled table read. But another source says the cast will be there even if no new deals are finalised.

In 2011, Modern Family generated $164 million in advertising revenue for ABC, up 40 percent from a year earlier, reports Kantar Media, and the series has proven a successful launching pad for the network’s other comedies.

  1. I’m not surprised, and they will probably get what they ask for. As deedeedragons said, it worked well for other ensemble casts (Friends immediately springs to mind). Plus with the momentum still there in the third season (unlike other third year shows such as Glee), it’s going to be hard for the executives to say no.

  2. They will make the agreement its a high rating show and gets heaps of awards…Also hard to write that many characters out of a show comedy or not
