Vale: Ron Palillo

US actor Ron Palillo, best known as sweathog Arnold Horshack in the 1970s sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter, has died, aged 63.

Florida newspaper The Palm Beach Post confirmed he died on Tuesday morning at his home. The cause of death is not yet determined, but reports indicate he had not been sick or in the hospital.

Palillo played the class clown Horshack on the US sitcom from 1975-79.

His other TV credits include guest appearances on The Love Boat, Cagney & Lacey and The A-Team, as well as voice roles on ’90s-era animated series such as Darkwing Duck.

He had most recently been teaching acting for film and camera at a school for the arts.

Palillo reunited with Kotter costars, including John Travolta, in April last year.

Former costar Robert Hegyes, who played fellow “Sweathog” Juan Epstein, died in January at 60 of an apparent heart attack.

  1. Gosh, you know you’re getting old when the Sweathogs start dying. Welcome Back Kotter was one of my fave shows as a kid in the ’70’s, RIP Ron Pallilo, 63 is very young these days to die.
