Josh leaves Big Brother following death in the family

Updated: Josh Moore has left the house following the death of his brother. Nine cancels Sunday eviction.

Josh Moore has left Big Brother following the death of his brother Toby at the age of 32.

Updated statement from Nine:

Tonight’s episode of Big Brother was filmed yesterday, prior to Housemate Josh Moore exiting the House for personal reasons. In this episode, viewers will see the Red/Blue task continuing, Ben and Angie catching up in the neutral zone and Zoe receiving a heartwarming message from home.

Last night, Josh was called into the Captain’s Quarters as the Housemates were getting ready for bed.  Josh was taken out of the House to meet his parents, Terry and Carolyn, who told him of the tragic sudden death of his only sibling, brother Toby, 32

Josh then spent the night outside the House with his family where he made the decision to leave the Big Brother competition and go home to support his family at this sad time.

Big Brother Housemates have been informed of Josh’s situation and had the opportunity to say good bye to him in person earlier today. Out of respect for Josh and his family, Big Brother turned the cameras off and this meeting was conducted privately.

As a result of Josh leaving the house, this week’s voting has been closed and funds from this period will be donated to The Salvation Army, a charity nominated by Josh and his family.

The Red/Blue task in the House has been cancelled and Live Updates from the Big Brother House on the program website and social media accounts have been paused for the day.

There will be no Big Brother Eviction this Sunday night; instead Big Brother will show extended footage from the weekend and celebrate Josh’s time in the House. From Monday, Live Nominations will continue as scheduled.

The Southern Star production team and the Nine Network wish to express their sympathy to the Moore family, and ask fans of Big Brother and the media to allow them privacy at this time.

  1. From what I’ve read elsewhere some people seem to be more preoccupied with the premise of what happens to the show now or what happens to the evictions. Maybe we’re dealing with life challenged demographics who have perhaps yet to encounter loss in their life. What some people seem to lose in their perspective is regardless, the house is a microcosm of people who have come to know every facet of each other and shared every waking moment. As humans we’re hot wired to cohabit so the housemates that have shared their lives with Josh Moore would be equally as affected and require immediate access to some sort of counselling. It would of course heighten equal sensitivities and concerns regarding their own families – that “What if?” scenario – and fear of something happening. I believe it to be good form that the producers halted live streams, switched off cameras and have most likely questioned all remaining housemates on their desires and decisions to continue in the house.

  2. Goatracer – Yes, I have but Big Brother has had housemates with family members die in the past too. Emma’s father died in BB2007 and she stayed in the house.

Anyway we’ll be seeing Josh in the house and saying bye on the show tonight. There is a bit of a write up about what he did as his last things in the house with the others on the big brother website.

  3. Sad, although what does this mean for the show? Michael was stressing enough being split in the blue team separated from Josh in the red, and now he has left altogether and now the task is they can’t even talk to the other colour team? I guess bb will allow them to talk now.

Will they also reinstate Bradley back in? Or what about this weeks eviction on Sunday?
