Seven Network stars and music celebs were in Perth yesterday for Telethon 2012, raising money for the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and other charities.
The 26 hour event kicked off at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre with Johnny Ruffo, Andrew De Silva, Daryl Braithwaite -and even Fat Cat.
Network stars across the weekend include Virginia Gay, Kerri-Anne Kennerly, Grant Denyer, Molly Medrum, George Houvardas, Dan Ewing, Melissa Bergland, Melissa Doyle, David Koch, Natalie Barr, Mark Beretta, James Tobin, Cosentino, Brynne Edelsten.
But the big coup was Elton John, with a live cross to his concert at Perth Arena.
Telethon has raised more than $117 million for WA children’s hospitals since the event started in 1968. Last year’s record total of $13.4 million is expected to be beaten.
For every tweet with the hashtag #telethon7 $1 is donated.

@Danny Kerry Stokes made an appearance at the end of the Telethon to donate $1 million dollars. A new record of just over $16 million dollars was raised.
Yeha i look forward to seeing all the 7 celebs, its nice of them all to take time out and they really love to do it.
Kerry Stoke with his son Ryan Stokes were in attendance. Last year James Packer with wife were there. This time around Kerri-Anne Kennerley and few other celebs. Brynne Edelsten too. Plenty of Channel 7 actors and tv presenters. I’m too surprised that it’s not broadcast across the country… perhaps when I see Kerry next time I’ll mention this idea! Not only is it for a great cause, it won’t only be people in Perth will know on the broadcast but most Australians would recognise. Molly Meldrum too looked well, and he was happy to have photographs taken with fans! Make sure you check out The West Australian newspaper on Monday and TV Guide on Sat for full coverage! The West online too.
It would be great to have this shown on 7two. Would have loved to see the telethon. I saw it a few years back when i was visiting Perth. It was great.
@BigJMatthews because its only for Western Australia-to help raise money for sick kids of Perth.
@ BigJMATHEWS, I wholly am of the same opinion as you. I assumed Seven was going to share the broadcast with other states.
@ Bella, sounds like it was a wonderful experience. Out of interest, did Kerry Stokes make an appearance and contribute a million dollars as he has in the past?
I was at Perth Arena to see Elton and it was a great he did the acknowledgement of Telethon. (And it must be said, a grand opening for the Arena!).
Why doesn’t Channel Seven Broadcast this all over Australia on 7 Mate if they are looking to create a bigger pie as this would do that in spades.
It was an amazing night! Daryl Braithwaite sang horses while someone in the crowd rocked out in a horses head! Some performances are available on YouTube under their account Telethon1968. The Federal Government also donated $1.5 million.
