Nine has officially renewed Big Brother for 2013.
Nine is now running promos for next year with some of its big shows, including Big Brother, The Block All Stars, Celebrity Apprentice, The Voice, The Great Australian Bake Off, Underbelly: Squizzy, House Husbands, Arrow and Australia’s Got Talent.
Nine had been widely tipped to be renewing the show, especially when it was included in a showreel to sponsors recently. But it had also been on the record as saying it was under serious consideration.
The network’s 2013 Upfronts begins in Sydney on Tuesday.

Glad that Big Brother is back!! knew it would! Nine have done an awesome job with the re-boot also. It’s a show different to any other shows and that’s why I like it- it’s enjoyable. Am sure it’ll do very well next year and Sonia also did an amazing job she is a fantastic host. Go Big Brother!
@Jake @Randwick: clearly enough people disagreed with you for Nine to renew it for another year. Watch another channel?
@ Randwick – couldn’t agree with you more – well said…
Big Brother is absolute garbage…incredible that viewers can sit through such fodder…..
Already up to date with Arrow due to *ahem* international travelling, so unless The Apprentice has a strong cast, there’s nothing for me on Nine.
Isn’t Arrow the CW’s biggest hit in years? Plus it has been airing on Sky1 in the UK (which is a pay TV channel and getting 0.7m viewers most weeks – higher than Terra Nova last year – in a slot that is up against Eastenders and Coronation Street). So I would say it should have some potential to rate, dependant on the slot. Having said that it will probably get the Tricky Businness slot after the Voice and end up going the same way as Alcatraz.
Have to say that Nine looks a lot stronger next year. I think they will be back with a vengeance (and probably will dominate again).
Nine prob picked up Arrow thinking it would add another string to their bow. Nine will be hoping in vane (get it?) that this does similar numbers to OUaT. However, the target demo for this means that Nine would be best to shoot it straight to Go rather than shaft it later due to poor ratings.
The show has scored reasonably well with the judges so I’m all-a-quiver in anticipation but I don’t think it will be sufficient for Nine to nock Seven off next year.
sweet big brother is renewed been waiting for this
🙂
I think they start some shows on the main channel for the initial good ratings and exposure. Then, when the numbers drop, they move them to the secondary channels and hope viewers follow it.
I don’t think as many people will watch the debut if it’s on Go.
I find it interesting that they on sold Revolution to foxtel but are perusing the similar genred Arrow. I think both would have flopped on 9 but Revolution would have had a much better chance. If NBC can make it work it couldn’t be that bad. Has a CW show ever worked in Australia?
yay I’m so happy, this news has made my day
Was kinda hoping 10 would get it back! Oh well just hope they give us back Uplate on a regular basis again. They have three channels to choose from now, should be no problems.
Be good to have live streaming on the website too, but if impossible for whatever reason returning up Uplate is a must.
Big brother – pure shite at it’s very worst!
Really Nine? Do they honestly think Arrow will work on their main channel? They’ve shown nothing but contempt for the genre previously, no doubt this won’t work and will be swung all around the place. I feel like they think it’s going to be some sexy, male-centric version of Revenge. It won’t work. Put it on Go where it belongs.
I’m suprised that Arrow will be on Nine, no TheCW shows seems to work here on primary channels, they all end up on Foxtel or Digitial Channels. They’d be better off putting it on GO!
I hope that next season of big brother actually has some age and cultural diversity. I didn’t bother with this season based on the contestants and false advertising prior to the launch.
2/3 of those listed are reality shows. Just – yuck.
Such great news!!!
we currently have this years the block 2012 australia screening at a slow pace in nz, but anyways i was wondering is the block all stars thee only series screening next year id like another series of all new contestants for the block it rocks
H.lua: two seasons of The Block next year, only one of which has a full series run. I think All Stars probably starts the year and wraps by end of March as Easter is early.
