Several of The Voice singers will appear at Carols by Candlelight this year, hosted once again by Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson on Christmas Eve.

Rachael Leahcar is this year’s ambassador for Vision Australia’s Carols.

Broadcast live on Channel Nine from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne on Monday, December 24 at 8.00pm, the annual concert will feature Christmas carols favourites performed by some of Australia’s favourite artists.

This Christmas Eve marks the 75th anniversary of the much loved event that has become a tradition in households right around Australia.

Rachael Leahcar, who will be making her first appearance as the Carols ambassador, is looking forward to fulfilling a long-held dream on the night.

“Carols by Candlelight has always been one of my favourite times of the year. Ever since I was a little girl I’ve wanted to perform on the Carols stage and this year my wish comes true,” she said.

Sarah de Bono and Darren Percival will light up the carols stage along with Marina Prior who will be celebrating her 21st appearance at Carols by Candlelight this year.

Viewers will be also be treated to performances by Tim Campbell, Anthony Callea, Rob Mills, Lucy Durack, David Hobson and Shane Jacobson, who will all perform their Christmas favourites.

The Music Bowl will be set alight by cast members of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the Australian Girls’ Choir, National Boys Choir, the Legends of Rock and The Chantoozies.

We welcome back to the stage Denis Walter, Lisa McCune and Silvie Paladino who join the star-studded lineup.

Children’s favourites Hi-5 will keep the little ones entertained, and no night of carols would be complete without a visit from Santa, taking time out from his busy schedule to make a special Christmas Eve appearance.

Carols by Candlelight will again be conducted under the guidance of musical director John Foreman, returning for his tenth year in the role.

  1. Only Christmas Song I have ever heard was Last Christmas in all it’s variations(Original Was Done by Wham way back in 1984)There are now 500 versions of that.It’s better than Traditional Christmas Carols.

  2. What I like about carols by candlelight is that nearly half the performers are christians. they bring the true meaning of christmas without the commercialism of the sydney carols in the domain.

  3. Lol Shelley .. it’s just wheeling out the usual suspects for these shows, although the Melbourne Carols is a lot classier than the Sydney one.

    I’m a bit bah-humbug about Christmas carols, at my age I’m totally over them.

  4. You know, they used to put some thought into these events. Now it feels like it’s a case of “here’s last year’s program with 2012 tacked on the top”. *sigh* I hate being cynical at Christmas!
