7TWO out rates TEN

7TWO scored record ratings for the APIA International, even beating TEN's primary channel.

2013-01-13_17047TWO scored record ratings on Saturday night as Bernard Tomic took victory at the APIA International over South African Kevin Anderson.

7TWO pulled an average of 555,000 viewers, giving the network a whopping 11.1% channel share.

That was enough to pip TEN’s primary channel share of  10.8%.

It was the second largest-ever audience for a digital channel in Australia.

This is the first time in Australian television history that local Live sport on a digital channel has defeated a free to air primary channel.

  1. I think the point is that the tennis beat everything and Everyone (with the exception of ABC1) as @Jason pointed out, not just Ten.

Is this just an excuse to start the Ten bashing for 2013? Grow up people.

  2. @tomothyd I agree completely…athough the only other shows they have been promoting is American Idol and Mr & Mrs Murder.

U would think that something like Reef Doctors would be getting some promo time and during the Hopman Cup would of been a smart time to show new promos

  3. Looks like the seven two Facebook page has ripped off your article David and not linked or credited it to you the least they could do would be to link or credit you David

  4. On the surface this is major news and would have been unheard of 3-4 years ago. However when you examine this closely it is just a minor digital channel beating another minor channel……

  5. It’s pretty bad for TEN, and they do not seem to be helping themselves either. According to their 2013 promos, the only shows they have are Elementary and MC: The Professionals. I have no idea what other new content they have. With dismal ratings in their last half of 2012, they should be promoting the hell out of all their new and returning content not just two shows.

Also, Eleven and ONE continually advertise their own content, as well as what is on TEN. I never see TEN advertise what is on the multi-channels – which showed in last weeks ratings of the season return of Neighbours.

  6. This says as much about the state of Ten as it does about the drawcard of an Aussie in a tennis final.

You gotta wonder how much better it would have done if it was in HD instead of gems such as Super Factories and Full Throttle Saloon.

  7. I’m not the least bit surprised. Channel Ten is now poison since they brought The Simpsons back. I won’t watch the channel at all because I don’t want to see ads for The Simpsons. I have a violent reaction whenever I hear that Homer Simpson voice. I don’t know what it is but it just repulses me, in fact that whole show and the way it destroyed an entire generation disgusts me. I’ve written to Channel Ten saying I will never watch the station while The Simpsons is on it.

  8. And David, did you also notice that the tennis on 7Two had a bigger audience than Channel Seven’s primary channel with its tired old Bond movie? That could also be a first.. the junior channel outrating the parent.

  9. Really, a live tennis final starring one of Australia’s most highly ranked tennis players outdone TEN’s replays of Bondi Vet, Graham Norton and a movie from the 90’s – who saw that coming? *sarcasm* Even though it’s a Saturday when no one rates well, TEN should be getting more than 10%. Why aren’t they premiering new (“new” in relation to FTA movie premieres) movies on a Saturday or try and renegotiate their rights with the NBL and get a live Saturday night game on TEN instead of just delayed games on ONE to try and increase their viewer share – as whatever their doing at the moment isn’t working.

  10. Gotta hand it to Seven. Their use of multi channels for live sport is awesome and exactly how it should be done.
As for Ten. Was bound to happen and its what they deserve. The network is a rabble and that’s what happens when you take your viewers for granted.

  11. More evidence that you can’t base a network on “reality shows” and other pop culture flash in the pan programming. Cancelling/rescheduling shows prematurely wouldn’t be helping either, as it doesn’t build audience loyalty.
