The Checkout: May 23

The Checkout tackles all those pesky "terms and conditions" we always accept online, plus Cadbury chocolate.

6cktAfter a short break for the Budget (can they please test that one while they’re at it?) The Checkout returns on Thursday night.

This week the team tackles all those pesky “terms and conditions” we always accept online, plus Cadbury Chocolate’s “10% Extra Joy.”

The show has its final episode next week.

In this week’s episode:

· Click “Accept” to Continue – Did you know that you have to agree not to develop nuclear weapons before Apple will let you use iTunes? Craig looks at the “terms and conditions” and all the objectionable contract rules we can’t object to.

· Chocolate & Weight Loss – is Cadbury really giving us “10% Extra Joy” by adding 20g to a block they reduced by 50g not so long ago?

· Tricks of the Trade Mags – Jules compares the way VB and American Express advertise to us with what they tell the people who sell their stuff to us.

· Energy Crisis – The worldwide energy-drink market is estimated to be worth $37 billion a year. Extreme Correspondent Ben Jenkins asks Dr Naren Gunja (Clinical Toxicologist from Westmead Hospital) why these drinks are so awesome!!!!!!

· Parallel Consumerverse – imagine a world where bread was sold like houses…..

· Snack Break: Trail Mix – Jules does the nutritional numbers on Trail Mix. You won’t believe how much exercise desk jockeys need to do to burn the calories from this healthy snack.

· If I Could Say One Thing – Fiona Guthrie, Executive Director for Financial Counselling Australia explains why it’s more important than ever to pay our debts on time – and how it could affect the interest rate you pay on loans for the rest of your life.

· Lipo Lunch-hour! – The face of Australia is changing…… maybe because we now spend $644.7 million on non-surgical cosmetics each year. Kate explores the poorly regulated world of lunchtime procedures – from botox, lipo, laser hair removal to teeth whitening, fraxel, LED light treatments, micro-dermabrasion and skin needling.

· F.U.Tube – Kirsten presents the latest viewer complaint videos … including all the ingredients in the apple juice that claims it’s “Nothing But Apples”.

  1. @shazz – unfortunately that happens a lot with different products. When a company tries something sneaky and underhanded like that, I either stop buying their products altogether or only buy them when they’re on special. Whittaker’s get’s this household’s chocolate business now.

Back on-topic, glad this has returned altho’ not really sure why it was off last week anyway. Was the Budget Reply at 8pm on the east coast?

  2. The Cadbury block is so true. They use to all be 250g, but then got reduced down to 190-220 depending on the type. Yet, the price didn’t reduce…….
