Her song The Sunflower is nominated in the Outstanding Original Song for a Drama Series category, after it was featured in an episode of The Bold and the Beautiful. It competes with two songs from The Young and the Restless.

Moon is already a success story, after being born with craniofacial disfigurement bletharophimosis and having 4 facial reconstructions and 2 Neuro Surgery operations by Dr Charlie Teo. In 2008, she was a finalist for Young Australian of the Year after raising over $50,000 for kids with facial disfigurements through her own Moonlight Foundation.

In 2007 she met Katherine Kelly Lang from B&B who introduced her music to executive producer Bradley Bell, and later recorded with Dolly Parton’s guitarist and producer, Kent Wells.

The Sunflower was written when she was 17 and will have its big chance on June 14th. You can hear the song here.

The last time an Aussie composer won a Daytime Emmy was in 2009 for Animalia. Bindi Irwin also won an acting nod in 2008.
