Q & A: Kevin says yes but where’s Tony?

Kevin Rudd will appear on Q & A on Monday night but Tony Abbott still hasn't accepted an invitation to front.

2013-08-29_1135Kevin Rudd will appear on Q & A on Monday night with host Tony Jones.

But Tony Abbott has not accepted an ABC invitation to also appear.

His last appearance was in November.

Next Monday 2 September, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will join host Tony Jones at the ABC studios in his hometown of Brisbane, to face the studio audience live and unscripted, and take questions from across the nation.

As always, Q&A will look to the audience to ask the questions and cover a range of topics and issues across the national agenda.

Monday night at 9.35pm (live AEST) on ABC1.

  1. I saw that ad Jason. I don’t know if they were trying to say something but I did think it was a good choice of quote. Highly amusing.

I guess the people that watch will see if the chair trick is used. Or if they’ll just mention Tony Abbott was invited to be on but declined again. How many times is it now?

  2. The Liberal Party have run the most risk averse campaign in Australian election history and Abbott’s avoidance of Q&A continues this. His favourite media are the News Ltd press, Sky News, Bolt Report and Nine’s Today show.

  3. What a pathetic leader is Abbott..He’s really terrified of the tough questions, he knows Tony Jones may ask.
The toughest question he was asked on the Bolt Report was, “Tell the Australian public why you will end up being the best PM Australia has ever had”

  4. ABC promos today mention only Kevin Rudd, but use vision of Malcolm Turnbull & K Rudd on a past Q&A. Maybe it’s just me but I think it’s hilarious and someone in the ABC Promos Dept is trying to say something.

  5. OK interesting. Thanks for the information.

I’m going to request that could the ABC News not announce, in general, what particular story will be on the former The 7.30 Report or any other show please. I’m fine if they want to announce that it is next. Also if there is some sort of ongoing story and there will be an update like what happened with Essendon. If it is rarely done. But otherwise avoid doing so. I guess I just want the News to be about the facts. Or at least attempt to be. Not about advertising. It erodes trust.

  6. Always amused by Q&A viewers complaining of Murdoch bias. Q&A has habitually more left wing panelists and often a left wing comedian/arts representative. Not to mention Tony Jones obvious slant. Complete with a heavy weighting of left onscreen Tweets. Totally understand if Tony Abbott doesn’t waste his time, in the same way I wouldn’t expect Rudd to go on Alan Jones.

  7. JoshS, yeah, poor ol’ Tone. He won’t be able to repeat his three word slogans, three word slogans, three word slogans, over & over & over again… Again.

  8. @Jason – Funnily enough I thought the exact same thing when Tony Abbott was interviewed on ABC Melbourne (radio) the other day.

He complained that the interviewer (Rafael Epstein) was dominating the dialogue, but every response he gave was so stilted, and full of pauses & umm-ing & ahh-ing that it almost made for dead air.

  9. It’s not Murdoch Media, Abbott Knows he would get tough questions and real journalism on the ABC. Tony Abbott is the Australian version of George W Bush, and that’s what Murdoch wants.

  10. Abbott, wants to strut the world stage representing Australia, but too gutless to strut the Q&A stage. Can ABC record two hours, edit out all of Abbott’s “Um, ah, well, look..” and constant repeating of sentences until he can think of something else to say, then we may have a watchable hour – if he turns up, that is.
