While 7TWO will screen a TV debate between Scott Morrison and Bill Shorten tonight, and SKY News has a public forum on Friday, a third event remains a point of contention.
Both Nine and ABC have offered to host a third primetime event but the Libs have accused Bill Shorten of avoiding further scrutiny.
“I’m happy to have debates with Bill Shorten,” Scott Morrison said on the campaign trail in Queensland.
“We’ve got two coming up this next week, but for some reason he doesn’t want to have them in the last two weeks of the campaign.”
“I’m happy to have one with Nine. We’re having one with Seven on Monday. We’re having one with SKY at the end of [this] week. I’d be happy to have one with the ABC.”
The ABC also invited the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader to a debate to be broadcast in primetime on radio and television and across the national broadcaster’s @abcnews platforms. The Opposition Leader declined the invitation.

Yesterday Annabel Crabb tweeted the Libs have proposed a third on ABC, moderated by Leigh Sales.

Shorten told reporters he had not rejected any offers.
“We haven’t rejected them. First of all, we’ve got two scheduled,” he said.
“Let’s see how they go. I’m open to doing more.”
Meanwhile, a Labor spokesperson pointed out that Shorten will appear on ABC’s Q&A on May 6 and suggested that Morrison do the same.

The image of Scott Morrison at the top of this story looks like it was taken at Engadine Maccas?
So home and away is more pressing than a debate to determine our future leader? This proves 7 viewers are dumb
Networks have other channels you know. Just pick up the remote and change the channel, really????
Such an arrogant comment, surprised it got through.
It got through because personal opinion is still an option here.
I took it as a wry comment on Seven programming priorities rather than H+A viewers. I don’t profess to always get moderation right.
All good David, you’re not at fault.

David – FWIW, Labor have invited the National Press Club to host a third debate at lunchtime on 8 May with a live feed to all networks. The NPC are scheduled to host Littleproud v Fitzgibbon; but presumably would take a leaders’ debate over that.
Bill goes off track quite quickly when asked a difficult question, this is why town hall meetings are a bit lame. He needs to be pulled back and answer the questions asked. I always laugh when he is aked a question and he is jotting down notes (apparently) and not focussing on the person asking the question.

Sure. Right after the fourth estate actually start asking ScoMo some questions.
Avoiding scrutiny? He’s held 85 town hall meetings which are open to everyone. He answers any questions asked & spends time talking to people after. Leigh Sales who hates Bill as moderator. Yeah that will be fair. What happened to 60 Minutes holding the debates? It was a tradition till the last election.
