Renewed: Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow becomes the first of the new US Fall shows on broadcast to get the greenlight for more.

2013-09-04_2155Good news for TEN with Sleepy Hollow becoming the first of the new US Fall shows on broadcast to get the greenlight for more.

In the US Sleepy Hollow has been deemed a hit, lifting FOX’s ratings in the 9 p.m. timeslot without a massive lead-in.

Deadline notes with interest that instead of simply extending the show’s first season with the standard “back 9 order” execs have opted not to be “greedy” and stuck to their original plan for a second-season of at least 13 episodes.

The move avoids have to scramble to come up with ways of stretching out the first season story line.

It’s still possible the second season could extend beyond 13 episodes.

In Australia Sleepy Hollow‘s fares aren’t as bright. The show premiered with 597,000 in a 9:30pm timeslot and is now 461,000 at 8:30pm.

  1. There’s a lot that’s good about 13 episode seasons: tighter season arcs; the episode budgets not having to be spread so thin; able to broadcast the entire season without a break; more time for the actors to do other projects.

However, the 9 month gap between seasons sure does suck.

  2. That’s good news, I like Sleepy Hollow as well; a nice escape away once a week to something you just watch without having to put your brain to work too much, just go along for the ride.

Also a fan of the 13 week seasons for shows, though I also don’t mind the 3 months on 3 months off cycle, where they have what they call a mid-season finale. Going back I remember Psych and White Collar use to cycle like that on USA, Psych would have 13 eps stop, White Collar would start and have 13 eps stop, then Psych would be back again and etc., etc.

  3. The Australian ratings have little to do with the show and everything to do with it being on Ten. Of course the same goes for everything on Ten. If a tree falls in the forest…

  4. Good decision by FOX. This is one of the great new dramas we are getting from the states. Sucks that its not fairing as well on TEN but its a great show. Also this was always going to be a 13 episode series. FOX said that from the start. Its so that The Following can fit its next 13 episodes in. I like the idea of 13 episode seasons because it takes all those filler episodes out and if done right they can be great. In saying that, you can put together great 22 episode seasons too but i think that the networks will start shying away from 22 episode shows.

  5. In America Sleepy Hollow is the highest rating new series to launch in the Monday at 9 time slot since the premiere of 24 10 years ago. It also outperformed The Following, Alcatraz and most new shows from FOX with the pilot and is still holding onto most of its audience quite well

I like the show, hope they can keep up the quality of the first 2 episodes. A shame it is not a hit on TEN

  6. This show was the first to appeal to me when they were showing previews earler in the year. I am enjoying it, I just wish it would do better on ten. It is way better than the awful Under the Dome.

  7. good decision to go for a 2nd season instead of a full season. hopefully this becomes the norm. american broadcast dramas shoot themselves in the foot with their stubbornness on 22-26 episode dramas instead of responding to the market for 13 episode dramas.
