Dr. Karl swings into Xmas for a good cause

Video: Neighbours' Alan Fletcher gets into the festive season with a slick original song for charity.

2013-11-22_1518Neighbours‘ Alan Fletcher just loves to sing, but this time it’s for a good cause.

Fletcher has teamed up with singing trio the Pacific Belles to raise money for cancer research initiative, Blue September.

When Belles lead singer, Laura Monaghan, approached ‘Dr. Karl’ to collaborate on producing a Christmas cover, rather than recording a Christmas classic he suggested an original song.

Fletcher collaborated with composer Tim Smith for If You Want A Happy Christmas and produced a very slick clip.

“We went for a swing style to complement The Pacific Bells’ vocal harmonies” said Fletcher. “Their sound is pure Andrews Sisters and Christmas songs from the Big Band era remain my firm favourites in the holiday genre”.

The video clip also features a wicked Stefan Dennis, plus Chris Milligan and James Mason.

All of Fletcher’s profits from digital sales are donated to Blue September.

  1. @David: The Neighbours tour wasn’t bad, we had a really good guide\driver who entertained us on the way and told facts and history. I would recommend doing the weekend tour, as you get to see the full backlot as well as the street.
Unfortunately I did a Wednesday tour, which the day they film on the street. This meant we could not enter and had to watch quietly from the entrance as they filmed and re-shot scenes from various angles. Due to not going into the street we got to see part of the backlot, which was Dial A Kyle, Mechanics and the shops over the road. We then went to St Kilda and met former cast member Ben Nicholas (Stingray Timmins) for a meet and greet, Q&A time.
We couldn’t go into Lasseter’s as it was being prepped for filming. Trip Advisor rates it high, and Bunyip Tours have won some awards for the tour. So, I’d recommend, but just do it on a Saturday in order to…

    1. No worries. I’ve obviously been to all the spots you are mentioning but I was thinking more about covering the fandom angle, esp. if there are UK fans there. It’s been on my wish list for a while, but haven’t had a chance yet.

  2. I heard about this last month. I was on the official Neighbours tour and the tour guide said Alan was filming the clip that night at a pub in St Kilda, and everyone was welcome to go. I would have gone but I had a ticket to Imagine Dragons, the reason for my trip to Melbourne.
