Mel B banned from The Project

Mel B won't be on The Project tonight after all, after a court ruling earlier this year prevents her appearance.

2013-11-01_1427Mel B won’t be appearing on The Project tonight after all.

Fairfax Media reports Seven pointed to the court ruling earlier this year which prevented her from working for another network for twelve months.

Executive Producer Craig Campbell said,”For us, it’s business,” he said. “We don’t want to upset anyone – it’s not in our world to do that – so when Seven told us about this, we went, ‘You’ve actually got a fair point there.’ It’s all good.

“We’ve got a good show tonight anyway, with supermodel Tyson Beckford.”

Yesterday TEN did not respond to enquiries about the legal ramifications of her appearance.

A Seven spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Our action was against the Nine Network.”

  1. I understand the rules and I get that so I know 7’s not in the wrong.

What I find weird is that this is promotion for her music and thought this would be under a different rule but obviously she didnt set the contract up that way

  2. @Leo Styles
Mel was just being deceitful. Seven is holding her to the conditions of the contract she agreed with and signed.

    @ryaneco
Accordig to her contract she’s actually technically still employed by Seven even if they aren’t using her for anything. That’s the whole point.

  3. This is quite petty on Seven’s part, considering no one watches TV on a Friday anyway, and no one watches The Project no matter what day of the week it is.

But I guess you could understand it. This way Seven are being fair to everyone in forbidding Mel on TV, rather than just to Nine.

  4. Yeah, she did an interview on 9 the other day. Kerri Ann always appears on The Project, they don’t seem to have a problem with that.

Ch 7 are petty though, I remember years ago when Jake Wall was on the Skating on Ice on ch 9, he was in the finale and ch 7 wouldn’t even let Jennifer Hawkins sit in the audience. She was his girlfriend and only wanted to show her support.

  5. She appeared on Nine the other day on Mornings but it was a pre-taped interview not a live appearance. She did, however, say she was free to do another talent show in Australia.

  6. She’s incredibly boring so Ten aren’t going to miss anything.

Apparently she has come out here to promote her album and will be in the Lavazza tent at the Derby tomorrow. I think we can assume that Seven will rightly give her zero coverage….another poorly managed prima donna

  7. Seems pretty mean spirited on Sevens part.

I know she had a contract and whatever but if she wants to promote her new album on other networks why stop her? it’s a Friday night, no one will be watching anyway.

  8. How is Seven the bad guy here? They paid her a lot of money for her exclusivity, and should get full value for the money they’ve spent.

If Mel wanted to maintain her media presence here then she shouldn’t have shafted Seven in the way that she did. I’m sure that Sunrise, X Factor etc would have been more than happy to have her on (and they are far bigger shows) if she hadn’t pissed the network off so much!

  9. Not that I give 2 shits but is she not even allowed to appear as a guest anywhere? She’s not being employed by the network.

She is in the wrong though, she broke contract and tried to shop herself elsewhere… pretty stupid.

  10. This would be a perfect opportunity for Nine to do a bit of cross-channel promotion and offer Geri Halliwell as a replacement.

Ten get a Spice Girl for the Project, Nine get a plug for AGT, Geri gets herself on TV again. Everyone wins.

  11. Seven needs to give her a job or a project no pun intended. They are clearly hoarding her same with some of there content. Although its not that new all networks do it at some point. She is talented and should not be wasted and hoarded, like some tv show.
