Mel B open to 2014 TV gigs

Would Mel B ever go back to The X Factor? Never say never.

2013-11-03_0120Would Mel B ever go back to The X Factor?

It’s hard to visualise given the history, but never say never.

The former Spice Girl spoke to Fairfax Media and amongst two key questions asked were:

Will we see you back on Australian TV?
Next year I’m not signed with anybody, so who knows? I’m really open. I like Sydney so I’d be open to that and definitely coming back here is one option. I’m having a few meetings down here with a few networks.

Would you go back to The X Factor Australia?
That’s something I would never rule out. I enjoyed my two years of doing it. You become part of the family. I’m still friends with Nat [Bassingthwaighte] and Guy [Sebastian].

There have been suggestions Ronan Keating may not return (he did an awful lot of ‘thank yous’ to crew during the Grand Final) so it looks like the panel may be evolving once again in 2014. If any judges don’t return to Australia’s Got Talent she would still be a key candidate, with the show demanding less of its judges due to no mentoring and allowing for more “fly-in, fly out” visits.

  1. I gave Geri the benefit of the doubt but she has been truly terrible. Dull dull dumb. Mel B better be yanking that chair back next year. Nine would be crazy to keep Geri on AGT. The other 3 judges are great – Kyle and Dawn especially.

  2. @jock, Yeah, Seven can definitely afford to buy an international male vocalist, but I wouldn’t be so quick to write off Aussie male artists. There are many good ones out there who could fulfil the role, apart from the two I suggested. Seven must also be concerned about the rumours surrounding Dani returning to the UK X-Factor. Cowell can afford to shower her with money, and I think she’d choose the UK version over our one. More money and the show is more high profile than ours.

  3. @Brekkie,, I think there is room for only 1 nasty judge. I should not say that Mel B is that nasty but what I mean is she is the female version of Simon Cowell, so maybe he won’t like the competition.

  4. Alot depends on what FOX does with the US version of X Factor as the reports and rumours here in the UK is that should Simon Cowell return he’ll try and get Dannii and Cheryl Cole back to recreate our shows most successful panel.

If either refuse though and Nicole Sherzinger doesn’t stick around I think Mel B will probably end up on the UK version.

  5. If Ronan leaves then Seven will pay up for a major international name rather than some backwater Australian artist. They have to if they want to build on this year’s success.

I don’t know who, but really anyone who was charting 3-5 years ago and hasn’t been heard from since should fit the bill (and isn’t too American).

  6. @The Moops – agree about Guy, he is irritating and boring. Shannon Noll would be a great (if not ironic) replacement – he doesn’t take himself too seriously, has had great success over the past decade, can talk and is relatable – but given the show is a collaboration with Sony Music, and the feud Shannon and Sony had a few years back, it’s probably unlikely!.

If Ronan leaves, they’ll have $$$ to spend on a big international name which I’m sure they will do for ratings.

  7. @Catherine, I hope like hell that Guy doesn’t return to the X-Factor. He is duller than dishwater. There are other Aussie male singers they could get, I’m sure. Alex Lloyd would be really good I think, or Bernard Fanning. I’m sure the producers have a wish list of male singers, both Australian and foreign, that they can approach should Ronan pull the pin.

  8. I don’t think any of the current X Factor judges would leave. Dannii and Redfoo seem to love it here. Nat has treated X Factor like its her career for the long term and Ronan has loved working on it. Fingers crossed they stay though.

  9. That would be a strange turn of events if she did go back to X Factor. I liked her back then but the current judging panel is pretty awesome. I’d predict Guy Sebastian to return in place of Ronan and the other 3 to stay put i would think.

  10. She’s what the show needs. Theres no mean judge on the panel. I got the feeling that Ronan won’t be back next year.

RedFoo needs some coaching from the producers on delivering critique, otherwise he’s fine.

  11. Yep agree if ch 10 want to get back into the swing of things they should bring back idol with her as a judge and maybe Paula Abdul also since she’ll be doing SYTYCD this is a great opportunity for ch 10 to change. I’m actually getting bored of the whole xfactor concept.

  12. I would have thought that she was doing more than OK on US TV. She has America’s Got Talent & she has done an awful lot of work on Today in the US.
I am sure the money is much better in the US than here.
It all depends on her family & whether she wants her kids growing up in Sydney or New York.

  13. I think they got it perfect with the two new judges on the x factor. If Ronan did go wouldnt they want to replace him with another male. Maybe Guy will come back.

I didnt miss Mel this year. We know she wont get the gig back on DWTS. Eddies has stepped into that beautifully.

Maybe AGT will suit her or if Australian Idol is coming back maybe that is for her

  14. No, no, no. I, for one, am glad she has been off our TV screens in 2013 and I don’t want to see her back on X-Factor. The panel they have now is excellent, though I don’t know if Foo or Ronan are returning.

  15. I lost esteem for this person a long time ago. Given Mel’s record of continual false accounts, I for one second don’t believe her declaration “I’m still friends with Nat [Bassingthwaighte”. Her apparent conflict with Nat made the show almost unwatchable.
