King Of Hollywood: Inventing David Geffen
Sunday 24 November, 8.30pm on SBS ONE

“David defined these cultures. The music culture. The show biz culture. The motion picture culture. He defined it. He built it”. – Tom Hanks

Notoriously press and camera-shy, David Geffen speaks for the first time in this unflinching portrait of a complex and compelling man. His far-reaching influence – as agent and manager, record industry mogul, Hollywood and Broadway producer, and billionaire philanthropist – has helped shape American popular culture for the past four decades. Geffen launched the early successes of Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jackson Browne, Tom Cruise and Guns N’ Roses. He co-founded DreamWorks and produced Cats and Dreamgirls.

This dealmaker extraordinaire is witty, self-aware and candid. Everyone from Yoko Ono and Cher, Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd, Steven Spielberg and Elton John, and David Geffen himself, illuminate his rich and riveting story.

**Australian premiere**
Springsteen and I
Sunday 1 December, 9.30pm on SBS ONE

“I can’t go a day without Bruce, he’s absolutely genuine…” – Fan

Forty years ago, Bruce Springsteen burst onto the rock scene and changed it forever. His music defines a generation, but behind the songs were remarkable stories about the fans who lived them. This beautifully crafted film provides a unique insight into the powerful bond between a recording artist and those who connect so profoundly with his music. The filmmakers have combined never-seen-before archive footage of Bruce’s performances throughout his career, with his fans’ reflections on their own personal insights and experiences with his incredible music. This is a film for the people, by the people – filled with the songs people loved and the stories they lived.

**Free To Air premiere**
LennoNYC
Sunday 8 December, 9.30pm on SBS ONE

“He’s one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met, and one of the most vibrant, kindest, funny, every minute that I ever spent with John, I treasure.” – Sir Elton John

When John Lennon died in December 1980, the Liverpool-born musician had been living in New York for nine years. He moved to the Big Apple following the breakup of The Beatles and the British media’s relentless aversion to his wife, Yoko Ono. Lennon’s involvement in the anti-Vietnam War movement prompted the US government to investigate deporting the artist, while his traumatic split with Yoko resulted in booze-fuelled exploits in Los Angeles. This film documents how he found his way back to the east coast, to Yoko, fatherhood and music.

**Australian premiere**
George Harrison: Living in a Material World
Part One: Sunday 15 December, 9.30pm on SBS ONE
Part Two: Sunday 22 December, 9.30pm on SBS ONE

“People always say I’m the Beatle who changed the most, but really that’s what I see life is about. You have to change” – George Harrison

Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese traces Harrison’s life from his musical beginnings in Liverpool through his life as a musician, a seeker, a philanthropist and a filmmaker, weaving together interviews with Harrison and his closest friends, performances, home movies and photographs. Much of the material in the film has never been seen or heard before. The result is a rare glimpse into the mind and soul of one of the most talented artists of his generation and a profoundly intimate and affecting work of cinema.

The film includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Tom Petty, Phil Spector, Ringo Starr and Jackie Stewart. They speak honestly and frankly about George’s many talents and contradictions.
