“Who needs a beachside setting for a breakfast television programme?”

Are Michael Rowland and Virginia Trioli about to relocate to the sand?

2013-11-04_1205On their 5th birthday celebrations today, ABC News Breakfast Hosts joked about a new set coming soon -and provided this image as evidence.

“Sand, waves, sunshine and half-naked people. What is wrong with that?” asked Michael Rowland.

“Michael we’re not wearing any sunblock, we don’t have any hats on. That’s going to be terribly damaging for our skin,” said Virginia Trioli.

“Very, very bad.

“Who needs a beachside setting for a breakfast television programme, I ask you? It’s not necessary. That’s just a flim-flam.”

Of course it was all a friendly dig at Wake Up and there are no changes in store.

News Breakfast producer ERin Vincent told TV Tonight, “Our formula seems to be working well right now so we are sticking with it.”

  1. Michael, Virginia, you don’t need cash or car bribes, or a beach backdrop at 7am, or clumsily integrated bits of yesterday’s “local” news.
Just keep doing what you’re doing.

  2. I’m sure I would’ve laughed if I saw that little exchange. Pretty sure we won’t seeing “stuffed animals giving away cash on ABC” anytime soon. With that in mind, here’s today’s News Breakfast promo where they say they’ll be giving away $10,000 tomorrow (no mention of stuffed animals though): youtube.com/watch?v=Dvlnd45w3mw

  3. I watched Wake Up for the first few minutes but it seemed a it uncomfortable especially the obviously pre recorded ‘local’ (Qld) news segment which featured stories Today were featuring in their bulletins.

  4. The whole point of the ABC is to add diversity to the landscape and offer something a bit more intelligent than brain dead cash cow beach burgers for breakfast.

Pretty disappointing then that Virginia is even joking about Wake Up! given how different they should be…

She should not be looking over her shoulder at the commercial shite, otherwise we’ll soon see stuffed animals giving away cash on ABC!

    God help us.

  5. *giggle*….I missed the TEN morning offerings…was up late watching F1….
But I do go to ABC24 when I want news..although I was annoyed this morning when they dumped half of Asia Pacific Focus…for a cross to Melb. Cup goings on..surely that could have waited another few minutes…hardly ‘breaking’ news.
