2.12m viewers hooked on MKR

Ratings: MKR hits a new season high and Love Child wins its slot for Nine -which both pummeled TEN.

2014-02-25_1011My Kitchen Rules shows no signs of slowing down, last night averaging a phenomenal 2.12m metro viewers for Seven.

The show was more than double The Block (1.08m) and more than 5 times the audience of two new Modern Family episodes on TEN (409,000 /400,000). Nine at least had better news either side of MKR, detailed below.

Seven network share was 35.4% then Nine 30.7%, ABC 18.0%, TEN 12.2% and SBS 3.6%.

Seven News was 1.15m / 1.09m for Seven then Home and Away (968,000), Revenge (937,000 / 762,000) and Million Dollar Minute (479,000). How I Met Your Mother was 203,000.

Love Child (1.26m) won its timeslot for Nine followed by Nine News (1.16m / 1.11m), The Block (1.08m), ACA (1.03m), Hot Seat (629,000) and Movie: Horrible Bosses (398,000).

ABC News (901,000) led ABC1 followed by Australian Story (769,000), 7:30 (720,000), Four Corners (637,000), Media Watch (610,000) and Q & A (494,000).

TEN’s troubles continue with TEN Eyewitness News (579,000) as its best performer. The Project was 474,000 / 338,000, Modern Family was 409,000 / 400,000. There were big problems from 8:30pm with One Life with Daniel Craig just 216,000.

SBS also struggled. A Housos repeat was best at 172,000 then Stephen Hawking’s Future Universe (170,000) and World News Australia (145,000).

Neighbours was best on multichannels at 273,000.

Sunrise: 335,000
Today: 312,000
ABC News Breakfast: 81,000 / 41,000
Wake Up: 40,000

  1. I think putting TEN down with respect to their shows and programming etc has become a ‘thing’ to do. I, and a lot of my friends and family, have TEN as their primary channel. All my favourite shows are on TEN, ONE or ELEVEN, can’t stand the stuff that’s on the others.

  2. I don’t think people on the forum are ‘Project haters’. Personally I like the show, so do a lot of my friends, but it’s rating are dire. It’s not about love or hate. I hate MKR can’t watch it, but i applause it’s ratings. It’s a business and TEN, as a business cannot afford to have their primetime lead in doing such low ratings.

Having said that, TEN’s spiral down is self feeding, They have some great shows, but how do they turn the viewing perception around. It’s much more than good show and better programming.

TEN need publicity, promotion and marketing…they will have to spend big, very big, to build a campaign that turns the viewers perception around.

DK is right, we need 3 competitive channels to push each other to deliver us the best shows and genres possible.

  3. I agree with ScottH. All the Project hate on here is very Odd. All my friends and I watch it…. Infact its one of my Favourite channel 10 shows. I’d be really upset if it was Canned.

Maybe my friends and I just in the perfect Demographic age or something. But I watch a lot of channel 10.

  4. i know ratings are looked at nationally … but with Prime now doing their own National News (not a bad effort first up except for a couple of poor editing points from 7 stuff) will they change the ratings? i know its still news but not the same show… thought anyone??

  5. “After having watched the premier (sic) ep of Secrets and Lies on Tenplay…”
So one less viewer when it goes to air TEN. The logic of putting it online before it goes onair escapes me.
A wildlife documentary up against Love Child and Revenge. Even Four Corners beat it by 3:1
Was the TEN Director of Programming surprised that happened? Probably.
Looking forward to The Good Wife, which I hear is on tomorrow night.

  6. Maybe Ten could focus on lifting its multichannel shares as a way of clawing back market share seeing as though the main channel strategy doesn’t seem to be working.

  7. After having watched the premier ep of Secrets and Lies on Tenplay I can say that this is a quality drama, however, with Ten’s current ratings, I don’t see it doing so well. I truly hope I am wrong.

  8. Firstly, congrats to MKR for the figure last night it was great to see the cashed up chavs (bogans) fail. Great car crash tele.
Secondly, I don’t understand all the hate on this site for the Project. I don’t watch it religiously however enjoy every episode I watch. I think everyone should remember that even with their current ratings it’s still one of 10’s best performing shows.
I’m also very concerned that 10 are going to kill Secrets & Lies by showing it on a Monday night.

  9. Yes Ten do need to perform, but they are not and have not been for a long time. Viewers are not watching Ten, if Ten do close up shop & down the track the TV landscape becomes even worse than it is now viewers only have themselves to blame. Don’t get me wrong I love Ten and it would be sad to see it go, but honestly I see no way that they are going to be able to move from 4th to 3rd.
Also people on here have said that Ten need to get Big Brother back, which to my understanding is not going to happen, but if Ten really wanted a Big Brother type show there has been over the years a few knock offs in the US like The Glass House, perhaps Ten should look into that and maybe even provide an actual live feed for it.

  10. David, I agree that The Good Wife is underappreciated. Having watched the first half of the new season already it is brilliant – the best season yet. It really slowed down last season with too much focus on relationships no-one cared about but this season is just action, action, action – big events every episode. If this was on 7 or 9 it would get numbers like Blaclist I reckon.

  11. A part of me just wishes that Ten would close up shop for good. It’s like when you have an injured animal that you can’t do anything for, much more humane to shoot it in the head than to let it suffer Then the people on here could comment on other things that is happening in the ratings.

    1. FKlein: Allow me to politely disagree. We actually need TEN to perform not to fail. Viewers benefit from healthy competition not a lack of it. Secrets and Lies and Puberty Blues next week are both excellent. Dance has some fantastic performers. Good Wife is under appreciated. Yes there are major problems, but better to spark ratings discussion on another topic if you want to sway the conversation.

  12. The problems start obviously with The project, and kill off Ten for the rest of the evening – They have obviously suffered a huge drop because of the departure of Dave Hughes, and because some people just don’t find Peter Helliar funny …..

But you would think in the Ten Ivory tower they already know this, yet they do nothing to resolve this …..

Watch out for Sunday night – if they don’t take of Have you been paying attention, then you know that Ten want to self destruct ……..

  13. I have the solution for ch10.

However it will need the help of their billionaire owners.

They need to track down the location of the 3500 viewing boxes and pay the folk to watch ch10, say between 50-100 dollars per night for 6-9 months.

Ratings will boom and the advertising dollars will flow in…..Problem solved.

all this shuffling of shows aint gonna work, bribery and corruption will

  14. Neighbours, which TEN shafted to a multi-channel, is doing better than their 8:30pm offering on the primary channel. That’s bad, abysmal in fact.
Perhaps they need to close the network for a month, go off air and relaunch with a new brand, logo, revivalised programming, and some programmers who acknowledge what is on the other channels and work with that, not ignore it and have their own shows fail against them.
The project needs to turn into a weekly program like The Panel, and the early evening slot needs an overhaul. Oh an any repeat programming in prime-time when its not a non-ratings week is not on.

  15. GO! 4.0%
    Ten 6.8%

LMAO – this network is a basket case.

It’s kind of becomming funny now. That do make so many stupid moves.

In money making demos I imagine Go! would close the gap on Ten even more.

No one is watching Ten. No one. There are two huge problems (well 3)

    1. No one is watching the network. Promos for shows don’t get seen by anyone anymore. You are essentially talking to the few people that watch you. No new viewers are coming and sampling Ten. They need to be advertising places other than on Ten: radio, print, online, mobile, social networks, gorilla marketing and pay TV – UKTV, LifeStyle, Fox Sports, Fox8, A&E. Networks with high 25-54 viewership. Reach people are are not watching Ten.

    2. The brand. There is just a real stench about Ten. Failed newshour. Failed brekafast. Failed wakeup. failed reality formats. Negative press coverage…

  16. MKR is fantastic. So well done.

My prediction is House Rules will increase ratings from last year by 25% +

@Jonno well said. Dont forget losing the AFL. Sport is such an important platform to get eyeballs to your network to cross promote.

  17. I loved The Circle…just cannot connect with the new morning show…even with Ita…I even liked 9AM before that….
And Big Brother on Nine is nothing like the exciting show it was on TEN…
I don’t know what the answer is for TEN…but I wish someone would find it….and quickly!!

  18. Please don’t comment about TEN today! It’s no different to being nasty about the dumb kid at school! Fact is, their primary share has gone up from 6.4% on Sunday to 6.8% last night, now that’s a gold medal performance! Rather than putting TEN down, can everyone please send them $10 to buy some decent programming! Please show some compassion!

  19. How can you feel sorry for TEN. They drop The Circle, Big Brother, Xfactor, Idol, go right wing with Paul Henry and Andrew Bolt. They put SYTYCD, another show they dumped against 2 blockbuster shows. Poor decision after poor decision. A real shame as TEN really kicked some goals a few years ago. They are structurally broken and need to start from scratch. They need to be innovative, like they use to be.
