My Kitchen Rules hits 1.84m viewers

Ratings: As we race towards the start of ratings, My Kitchen Rules hits a season high.

2014-02-04_1012We’re still not in the official ratings period yet and already My Kitchen Rules is roasting the competition.

Last night it averaged 1.84m viewers, it’s best numbers this season. The show was streets ahead of The Block‘s 1.13m and more than three times the audience of The Biggest Loser at 499,000.

The episode saw South Australians Deb and Rick cooking, but tonight outspoken WA friends Chloe and Kelly face the music with one team set to be eliminated from the group by the end of the episode.

Given the three way competition, the numbers for The Block are quite decent, but TEN will surely be mulling their options for a post-Olympics schedule. That 7pm timeslot is the elephant in their room.

Nationally Seven also won both half hours between 6-7pm, while Nine’s Hot Seat (661,000) beat Million Dollar Minute (416,000).

Australian Story returned with 814,000 for ABC1.

Full ratings wraps resume next week.

  1. My Kitchen doesn’t Rule….does nothing for me….and either does Biggest L…..But I do like The Project….and hate hate hate ACA…..Is there something wrong with me??????

  2. Not a fan of Deb and Rick and I thought Pete and Manu scored them very high for some pedestrian looking food. The producers obviously want them to remain in the comp. I am really enjoying the series again this year, thanks to some really great casting. I love, love, love the instant restaurant rounds, it really is car crash telly and incredibly compulsive. So much more fun than Masterchef. Close the gate on The Block:Fans and Faves- the MKR horse has bolted and I doubt TBFF will make up momentum. Sorry Nine, your gamble didn’t pay off. SYTYCD is going to be annihilated Sunday night, Seven will most likely romp home with huge numbers. I predict INXS will rate over 2M, easy. Not sure if MKR will go that high, but it might.

  3. 6pm is a blackhole for Ten so why not bring The Project forward to 6pm & start Biggest Loser at 7 to get the jump on 7 & 9? They started the 7pm reality tv boom with Big Brother, time to reclaim the timeslot.

  4. I think MKR is absolutely going to destroy SYTYCD on Sunday, especially with the INXS movie afterwards. I think SYTYCD will rate even lower than the Bachelor did and both the premiere and finale will not crack 1m.

  5. MKR to smash 2m tonight, scripted or not but dang that’s some good tv,
I’m also looking forward to Sunday with sytycd on against mkr (if I’m correct :/)
I hope the winning streak continues for it,
Tbl is trying to hard. It’s a perfectly good show but it’s been a bit overdone for my liking, unfortunately that’s showing I’m it’s ratings..

  6. If last night reached 1.84m then tonight will easily smash through 2m, with the WA Girls cooking and the first “elimination”.

MKR is big event television, whereas The Block has become so slow that it’s morphed into something that I now time shift.

  7. What a silly show I really don’t understand why this show is rating well this is not a cooking show it’s a bitching show about other people’s cooking so scripted and fake.

  8. Anyone else not sucked into MKR feel like they’re living in another reality?

All these bright friends of mine tweeting and Facebooking about Naughty Nanna’s and bitches from WA have me worried they’ve had their brains snatched.

  9. Why can’t ten do ten news 5PM to 6PM then Monday Friday do the project with Carrie Charlie and Pet at 6PM then 630PM do a local version project so each state get there own hosts Sunday to Friday then 7PM mater chef or the biggest loser.

I love the cooking part of MKR but not the carry on teams do

  10. Can not stand Manu so do not watch MKR, do not like “The Block” do not watch The Biggest Loser” I like either 7TWO news or ABC News and then find something interesting on the other multichannels.
I agree with Dans Dans and I can not understand why people watch reality stuff in droves.
I know one of the previous contestants personally and their comments about the show just confirmed to me what I have always thought.

  11. In past years, haven’t the Instant Restaurants always rated big, and then numbers dropped off once they moved into the studio? I know that’s how it’s been in my house…

  12. I will have to wait for the replay of this episode, thanks to the wanders(not a typo) of digital TV, but what I did see, only confused me some what, such as ‘green beans’ were mentioned as not being on their their shopping list, but turned up as a component in their main course?
In hope there is a replay, to enable a viewable recording to pause, because in between drop outs, I could not see a hint of any heat source under the saucepan used in the making of the custard that would not thicken.
I am starting to suspect that possibly the frequency of tried and trusted recipe/cooking dramas/failures, now virtually happening with ‘ every’ team’ is to me starting to get the sniff of being contrived for the drama.
I do wonder if naughty Nan appreciates she has survived the 38 years or is that also part of the drama?

  13. 6pm is still Ten’s biggest problem. The Project was working last year, pulling 600+k but it is getting smashed at 7pm now.

Ten doesn’t have a good early evening lineup because their news and currents affairs lineup tanked and they moved a struggling Neighbours to Eleven to make way for it.

They can move BL to 7pm get few more ratings for the first 30m. But they will still lose those viewers before they can start M rated night time shows @8:30pm.

Ten will be able to do better this week the BBL finals and then they have two and bit weeks of Sochi in and around their early evening lineup.

But come March they are going to face the same problem.

  14. It is hard to believe that 10 are letting the 7pm slot go begging particularly with a reality show begging to be stripped to 30 mins 5 nights a week. Gobsmackingly hard to believe actually. The Project would settle nicely back at 30 minutes.

  15. I found ‘Naughty Nana’ a bit irritating last night – I find being that overtly flirtatious and sexual in front of your husband at that age very crass.
The cooking last night was very basic but I now realise the target market is suburban families who cook this sort of stuff regularly. It’s not the advanced gourmet we see on Masterchef.

The casting is clever again this year – the producers have the villans in the ‘well travelled friends’ but they’re not being racist by having them as a minority. Tonights episode will get 2m viewers easily.

I find Andrew most annoying and was very surprised to see he was dating a woman…..

  16. I am loving both MKR and TBL but ten deserves what it gets because they refuse to realise that they need to cut the project back to 30 minutes or even better axe it and strip TBL to 7pm week nights

  17. Oh god, BarrieT, I am exact opposite – Naughty Nana drove me up the wall!! Particularly the way she kept referring to herself in the third person!! I don’t know how someone hasn’t slapped Andrew yet – I know the girls are a hell of a lot bitchier (and damn I can’t wait til tonight’s episode because it will be awesome!!) – but he is so loud and obnoxious! It’s clear he wants some kind of media deal out of it – the “wacky” behaviour just feels so contrived!

Predictions for tonight? I’m thinking 1.9m.

  18. The refreshed Million Dollar Minute isn’t firing and is starting to become a problem for Seven. I wonder if it will last the year. Simon Reeve is a great host it’s just the format is severely flawed.

  19. Thats the same as the US version of Masterchef, It’s only as 12 Ep season. Where we get it 6 nights a week.

I’m a Block Girl, but I’ve got to say I’ve gotten a little sucked into MKR this season.

  20. I love naughty nana and I think Manu was being very generous to them with his scores. Can’t wait for the Perth girls tonight. I’ve just started watching the UK version which is only 10 episodes long. Why do we get 40+ eps? Funny but the British judge is complaining that there is not enough sauce. Makes you wonder how scripted these shows are.
