Sunday Night, MKR, Fat Tony take the night -TEN takes a tumble.

Ratings: Sunday Night, My Kitchen Rules and Fat Tony all scored last night, but TEN's primary channel hits a new low.

2014-02-20_1607After its week from hell with AFP raids, Sunday Night was rewarded with bumper numbers last night, showing once again that our fascination with INXS is still at a high.

The show topped the night with a whopping 1.91m viewers -a new record for the show.

Seven and Nine both pulled big shares, at the expense of the rest.

TEN will again be grateful its multichannel share propped up some dire numbers.

A 6.4% channel share was its lowest primary channel share in survey since the introduction of OzTAM ratings in 2001.

Seven network share was 35.9% then Nine 32.6%, ABC 14.4%, TEN 13.1% and SBS 3.9%.

Also scoring for Seven were My Kitchen Rules (1.73m), Seven News (1.19m), Downton Abbey (1.13m) and Castle (462,000).

Fat Tony and Co. won its timeslot for Nine at 1.38m / 1.24m viewers. Next were The Block (1.33m), Nine News (1.09m), 60 Minutes (926,000) and a Love Child repeat (430,000).

ABC News (801,000) was best for ABC1 followed by Flying Monsters with David Attenborough (706,000), Rake (617,000), Australia’s Remote Islands (447,000) and Tim Winton’s The Turning (272,000).

TEN’s night was a shocker with 378,000 as its best audience for So You Think You Can Dance Australia, despite its amazing talent. TEN Eyewitness News was 348,000, Modern Family was 280,000 / 254,000 and Have You Been Paying Attention? was just 168,000. Thankfully Sochi Winter Olympics gave ONE a 5.1% share.

SBS ONE also struggled with World News Australia (180,000), Plane Crash (167,000) and Archaeology: A Secret History (146,000),

Sochi Winter Olympics led multichannels at 271,000 viewers.

  1. 1.91M, for Sunday Night???????? Wow, that is amazing. Loved the story, it was very well put together and it was great to see all members of INXS put their 0.02c worth in. Loved all the old footage of Michael, what a talent he was and what a tragedy his untimely death was. LOL’d at the way SN put the boot into the AFP in the segment immediately following the INXS story! Channel Seven – 1, AFP- 0

@FKlein, I agree. The Ten brand is horrendously damaged, almost everything they touch turns to poison. Seven would have had Sochi rating through the ceiling, on Ten it was a damp squib. Why? Ten is seriously on the nose with viewers.

  2. Ten should see if they can rush out Offspring maybe put it on with Puberty Blues. One of the editors tweeted they were on their way to the last Offspring wrap party ever, so this must be the final series. Ten should really think about a spin off or recommissioning it if they can.

  3. Loved watching SYTYCD last night, the brothers routine and the top 10 girls routine were amazingly beautiful. Wish it were getting better numbers, but there isn’t the interest in dance here as there is singing or cooking. Perhaps a different night would help things.

  4. So You Think You Can Dance should be scheduled in a quieter Wednesday or Thursday timeslot. Modern Family and Elementary were doing fine on Sundays, why did Ten abandon something that was working?

  5. 6.4%? Ten will prob only give themselves a silver medal for that. Sunday is the night that sets you up for the whole week so what an earth were they thinking taking off their one half-decent performer and kicking off with HYBPA?

  6. Thanks to an overworked PVR I was able to watch MKR, INXS, Downton Abbey, Fat Tony and SYTYCD. I don’t think I’ll bother with SYTYCD again. Yes the dancers are very talented and the judges were truthful and fair. However Carrie Bickmore gave me a headache. Carrie stop shouting you have a microphone. SYTYCD wins the prize for using the words amazing, awesome and spectacular the most in a 3 hour time period.

  7. I think we are watching ch10 die a long slow painful death. They do have some good shows, but now Sochi has gone they will drop back to a distant 4th, sad but true. Comm games may give them a boost, but otherwise their year has finished as a dismal failure. Shame cos I don’t think ch7 or ch9 are doing anything that spectacular….

  8. SYTYCD was really good last night. Some good performances and the judges gave some good feedback. Its just such a shame that everything else outrated it. It really is well worth a watch if you like dancing.

  9. @Harry you wrote “Ten needs to dump this plus SYTYCD straight away and spend their money on a show can at least has a chance of working.” Does not matter what Ten has nothing will work. I would even say that if Ten had the rights to Game Of Thrones and put it up against 7 & 9 reality offerings it still would not rate. The Ten brand is damaged.

  10. Thanks,David.I think that’s part of 10’s problem. You just never know when they’re going to pull a programme from the line up at the last minute,or move it to a later timeslot. It’s really a very confused method of programming and must deter a lot of people from watching their shows.

  11. SYTYCD must move to Eleven on those numbers or maybe could do something on Thursdays at 7.30 for Ten.

Housewives is a hit and will probably mean FTA will want to develop this franchise if they are allowed to as it will spell big ratings.

  12. Have you been paying Attention!

This only did 168K – why would you renew this series when it was already a flop? Then why would you schedule it, it a look back at last weeks news, against two news services with the current news? Ten needs to dump this plus SYTYCD straight away and spend their money on a show can at least has a chance of working. Both shows are recorded this week so easy to get out of them now and save the money. Is this yet another gold medal performance by TEN as far as their CEO is concerned?

  13. I thought Fat Tony was great, loved it and will be back. With this and Love Child, Nine’s drama is going pretty well, now the best local drama slate. Sunday Night was the hit of the night and totally smashed 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes has a lot of work to do as third week it’s been demolished. And then there is TEN!

  14. I feel for ten too – they tried in investing in a return of SYTYCD and it really has backfired. However, I do think it’s about the overall Ten brand. Would Dance, The Project, Biggest Loser, Puberty Blues etc be eating much higher on 7 and 9 where the brand is less tarnished?

  15. Wow. TEN has hit new lows. That is incredible. Sunday Night, what a figure. The show is doing so much better at 7:30pm. Seven should keep it there for the entire year because it really is doing well. Last night INXS was a great interview. They know what they are doing this team. MKR again does really well at 6:30pm. Fat Tony had a good premiere too. I am yet to watch it but will watch it sometime during the week. Downton returned well too considering but TEN i see a dire future ahead for them. Nothing is working.

    1. TEN moved Dance to avoid the MKR / Block battle, which I think was the right decision. But they hadn’t counted on the fact it was an INXS interview that pulled out the bigger audience. In fairness some of their audience would have also been over on ONE. But that’s where it ends from tomorrow.

Real Housewives was 117,000 for Foxtel, their best entertainment offering of the night (see daily ratings).

  16. Doesn’t Ten realise that the public doesn’t want shows like HYBPA (or the Project for that matter) airing in the early evening. These shows only have a chance of success (and even then it’s only a small chance) if they air later in the evening.

SYTYCDA has flopped but had no chance with such a poor lead-in.
