Bumped: So You Think You Can Dance Australia

TEN relents and moves Dance from Sundays to Thursdays.

2014-03-11_1633TEN is moving So You Think You Can Dance Australia from Sundays to Thursday immediately, following disappointing ratings.

It will be replaced with a movie this Sunday night.

Instead it will screen at 7:30pm Thursday away from stronger competition. As a result Law and Order: SVU moves to 9pm. The Biggest Loser episode moves from Thursdays to Fridays.

While the move will see TEN more competitive later in the week it still has some under-performing shows earlier in the week that are likely to struggle.

  1. I agree with Maev that I’m very grateful for this site keeping viewers up to date on what is happening. Thank you David.

So let me get this straight the day they might have viewers due to sport they take away a show that may or may not of benefited from it? Plus they have sport and the film Thor that might attract and keep viewers but leave in-between Have You Been Paying Attention? And it isn’t expected to go wrong?

I guess I better hope my instinct is wrong somehow. I guess I’ll be interested to see what will happen. Good or bad. And not just Sunday.

  2. I think this move is great. A lot of the age demographic this show is aimed at are between about 15 – 35 and Sunday evenings are impossible!! Thursdays mean we can watch it. I still can’t understand how Channel 10 has structured the show though. Why didn’t they base it on the US version, which is excellent and so watchable. This is one of the most terribly edited shows I’ve seen and I’m a huge “Dance Fan”. What’s worse is when I tried to watch it on Ten Play – it keeps freezing and repeating the same commercial 10 times over so eventually I have up. They make it hard for even the dedicated fans with friends on the show to keep watching with the way they are structuring it!!

  3. Is this John Stephens’ first obvious act in firing up the bilge pumps and trying to stop the Tentanic from continuing to slip beneath the waves? Should have happened ages ago. Time to drop the arrogance and listen to the people again.

  4. It’s history repeating itself, the same thing happened with the Bachelor. Started on Sunday couldn’t compete with the other networks so they moved it to Wednesday and it ended up successful. It’s a shame It always takes Ten 3 weeks to work out what everyone else knows.

  5. @bh I agree with you – unconvinced this will help moving it to Thurs night, I think people have made up their minds on this one……

some programming mistakes I see – Have you been paying attention – should be scrapped immediately …. it’s just a ratings black hole …..

Fri 830 – Biggest loser – you may as well just have a broadcasting pattern, as it will rate more …. this must be one of ten’s biggest turkeys this year, so to repeat a turkey that didn’t rate in the first place is just giving ratings to the competition ….

way to go Ten … more sound programming logic ….

  6. That would be a perfect timeslot for Channel TEN because thank goodness, this show will not have to go against MKR! However, this show will be against Home And Away and The Block. Hopefully this show will push the ratings up.

  7. This is exactly where it should have been from the get go. Production companies must groan every time Ten commissions a new series knowing that they’re going to throw it around their very questionable schedule like a weathered old rag doll. It’s time for whoever is making these woeful decisions to bow down. Better luck to John Stephens who has a hell of job pulling this network out of their nose dive.

  8. It’s good that its moved to Thursday (away from the block and MKR), but like others have said it’s too late. But surely SYTYCD would have benefited airing straight after the Grand Prix?

  9. Awesome. Much happier. I couldn’t even catch up – I’m usually out on a Sunday night, so MKR and the Block took up all my recording capacity – properly, as you’d always miss a good 20-30mins

  10. @ David Knox….TEN owes you some thanks for keeping the balls in the air….
A number of good stories letting viewers know what is happening at TEN…and thankyou from me…a viewer.

  11. Its a sensible move that viewers have been asking for, but Ten have left this way too late. The Bachelor was shifted to Wednesdays after its second week, whereas Dance will be in its sixth week. Not to mention it will be up against The Block, Survivor, The Amazing Race and American Idol which are already well into their seasons.

  12. I suppose there is not enough time for the dancers to learn a new routine by this Thursday hence it will not be on?
I agree the Wed timeslot killed it last time! I only hope this increases viewers…..

  13. This is disappointing news. Especially seeing their current filming schedule is on Fridays.
I hope it does not throw off the contestants who are all legitimately talented people.
I love this show, it’s the kind of reality programming I prefer to watch.
But I have no faith left in Channel Ten’s programming skills at all.

  14. the exact thing happened with the bachelor, and the same will happen with Secrets & Lies. when will they learn? ten need to load Wed, Thurs, Fri with their strongest content instead of throwing it to the wolves on Sun & Mon.

aren’t the shows filmed on friday during the day? unless the filming schedule is changed the voting lines will only be able to be open for a few hours.

  15. Oh man! This breaks my heart. It was the move to Wed/Thu that killed the show last time. But Thursday is the weaker of those two nights so this guarantees beyond a doubt now that we won’t be seeing SYTYCD on our TV’s once this season is over. Here’s hoping the move might help with ratings at least for the remainder of this season.

  16. Isn’t it time TEN just handed in its licence and called it quits? It seems unthinkable that there is anything that network can do to get viewers back, even if it does have some quality shows.
