Nine takes option on Rising Star
Nine picks up Rising Star, but it could be as an insurance policy on The Voice.

We finally have clarity, sort of, on Rising Star, the Israeli talent show.
The Australian Financial Review reports Nine has taken an option on the show.
But it doesn’t necessarily mean the show will be produced.
Nine may well have taken the option as a way to protect The Voice, to stop the show from being produced elsewhere.
It will also be watching carefully to see how the show performs on ABC in the US. In Brazil the show tanked.
In this regard, the acquisition is something of an each way bet.
Curiously, the rights to the show in Australia are held by Keshet Australia, which is owned by Nine Network chairman David Haslingden. That could have potentially meant he even to got vote on whether the network picked up the show…
TV Tonight understands other networks were also offered the show.

Who has the rights to New Faces? Or Opportunity Knocks?
A smart move by 9 depending on how much they spent. If 7 had done this to The Voice, as an insurance policy on AGT the television landscape would be very different today.
