MAX remembers Doc Neeson with The Artist’s Story: The Angels

MAX premieres a special on The Angels with never-seen-before interviews with Doc Neeson.

2014-06-05_1054MAX channel is the first to schedule a special to remember iconic singer ‘Doc’ Neeson, who passed away yesterday from brain cancer.

Tomorrow night it will screen MAX The Artist’s Story: The Angels with never-before-seen interviews with Neeson plus interviews from band members and rare archival footage throughout their career.

Rebecca Batties, Foxtel General Manager for Music and Head of Digital, said, “MAX is proud to release this tribute to The Angels whose music has had a profound impact on generations of fans from the mid-1970s to people discovering them today. Their live performances captured the hearts of music fans all over the world and this program honours the place in Australian music history The Angels created over their 40 year career.

“Like so many Australian music fans, we were saddened to hear of Doc Neeson’s passing. He was an incredible performer and we feel privileged to honour him in this unique television special which celebrates his life, the success of The Angels, and their influence on Australian rock music and culture.”

Originally formed by brothers Rick and John Brewster in Adelaide, and joined by Neeson and Charlie King, the band quickly made an impression securing the support act for an AC/DC tour in South Australia. In 1975 the band was offered a recording deal with the Albert label becoming known as “The Angels”.

Since releasing their debut single Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again in 1976, and following up with hits like No Secrets, Take A Long Line, and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, The Angels have gone on to enjoy an extraordinary career remaining one of the most prolific and enduring bands in Australian music history.

Friday June 6 at 8.30pm AEST and Monday June 9 at 8.30pm on MAX.

One Response

  1. I’ll never forget the Angel’s concert on the beach in Newcastle so many years ago – as the skies opened up they were doing “Will I Ever See Her Face Again” and we responded with the “No way, get … etc etc”
That was the first time I heard that crowd response!
We were as one, as they say.
Brilliant. Love you Doc. So sad.
