X Factor slips behind The Voice, MasterChef. SBS scores with World Cup.

Ratings: Survey says nobody thought MasterChef could top The X Factor. But Nine wins Monday.

2014-07-15_1012The survey says viewers steered away from The X Factor last night, despite its win on Sunday night.

Last night The Voice (1.25m) and MasterChef Australia (1.04m) both pipped Seven’s talent quest in the Reality TV stakes. Seven’s decision to launch against two shows heading towards their finals appears to have cost it some viewers. Last night it had to settle for 970,000 viewers -its lowest ever audience on Seven.

TEN’s 3 x channel roadblock of a hyper Family Feud pulled 690,000 viewers (individual channels have not been supplied), which the network notes is up 1/3 on the timeslot.

Elsewhere the FIFA World Cup final scored a brilliant 883,000 viewers for SBS, seemingly sending Sunrise down to just 1,000 ahead of Today.

Nine network won Monday with a 30.2% share then Seven 27.4%, ABC 18.6%, TEN 17.4% and SBS 6.4%.

Nine scored the top 4 rankings with Nine News topped the night with 1.33m / 1.23m viewers then The Voice (1.25m) and A Current Affair (1.24m). Hot Seat was 679,000, House Husbands was 534,000 and Footy Classified was 311,000 in 3 cities.

Seven News was 1.2m / 1.12m for Seven then X Factor (970,000), Home and Away (901,000), Million Dollar Minute (610,000), Anh Does Brazil (531,000). Talking Footy was 41,000 (101,000 on 7mate) in 3 cities.

ABC News (890,000) led ABC1 then Australian Story (796,000), 7:30 (767,000), Four Corners (706,000), Media Watch (633,000) and Q & A (534,000).

MasterChef Australia (1.04m) continues to serve up an audience for TEN. Family Feud scored 690,000 across TEN, ELEVEN and ONE -channel numbers have not been broken out, however last week’s 3 channels scored 529,000 for the same timeslot. Elsewhere TEN Eyewitness News was also 690,000, then The Project (603,000 / 453,000), Have You Been Paying Attention? increased (408,000) and 24 (220,000).

Germany’s FIFA World Cup win kicked goals at 883,000 for SBS ONE -just not in primetime where it would lift their share. In primetime Richard Hammond’s Miracles of Nature was 263,000 then Pain Pus and Poison (254,000), Tour de France (217,000) and SBS World News 151,000.

Neighbours led multichannels at 302,000.

Sunrise: 294,000
Today: 293,000
ABC News Breakfast: 72,000 / 43,000

  1. I watched Family Feud & it was good, much better than repeats at 6pm on TEN.

Have You Been Paying Attention is a funny show (most of the time lol), great that ratings have increased with it’s new timeslot.

  2. I think there are few notable observations from last night’s ratings:
    – Masterchef beat X factor
    – Masterchef beat The Voice in certain demos
    – Family Feud debuted well
    – The Voice barely hit 1.3m given it is Grand Final next week

  3. Nearly 1 Million for Xfactor was ok considering The Voice is in its final weeks. These sort of shows usually get a boost at this stage. With only a few weeks left The Voice should be doing nearly 2 Million so it has been a flop when you put together production costs, huge salaries for the judges and the rights for it. Xfactor might struggle for the next few weeks but it will then come into its own. I also think putting Family Fued on at 6pm is a stroke of genius.

  5. Knew the Voice will do great, I think the Voice is so much better than the
X-factor, the judges on the X-factor are so outdated when was the last time any of them had a great hit? The Voice is more fresh and appealing and glad MC did good also against X-factor.

  6. FF was better than I expected. Grant did a good job. (Much better than his nervous version on Studio 10 earlier in the day). Grant was genuine and not a tool like he has been on Sunrise in the past. It is very simple TV….Just wonder how long will the interest keep up. But TEN would be happy with the start…but can see it sliding back to 400ks in the coming weeks.

  7. I think FF is genius programming…it’s genuine, family friendly viewing and my young son loved it last night. He’s very excited about it being on every night. Simple, inoffensive and there’s so much value in being a dinner preparing mum, knowing your child is watching something that’s clean, good hearted fun that keeps him engaged. Suspect this might be a slow-burn hit.

  8. I watched Family Feud on a PVR recording, and it was terrible. Grant is not at all funny and I couldn’t understand why he was shouting at me in the opening segment. The contestants answers were infuriatingly stupid. It is so obvious that the producers tell the contestants to try and be funny, and to huddle like idiots when the opposing team get two strikes. I couldn’t tolerate it after 15 mins and deleted the recording. I will not be back, and expect the ratings to hover around 339k.

  9. Not X Factor’s lowest on 7… season one (or 2 in 2010) dipped to 938,000 for an episode. But I still agree with the sentiment at least. Not so great.

  10. Is anybody else kind of happy that X factor or should I say Non-factor rated badly? Well I am! It’s about time that 7 got knocked down a few pegs, they have been on top for too long.
I watched Ten from 5pm till Masterchef finished. I really liked FF, normaly I would switch over from Ten after the news because I can’t stand MF, so I’m happy that now I can watch Ten all night. With BB not on for a while I really have no reason to watch 9. I might actually give The Bachelor a try when it starts.

  11. For me, Family Feud was car crash tv. Mainly because the answers were so bad!!! I was wondering if they were told to say stupid answers so that it’d be a more dramatic finish!

  12. The real interest lies in Family Feud’s numbers tonight. I would suggest last night’s result was mostly curiosity factor – I felt it was no different to when Bert or Tony Barber hosted it. Very passe but an alternative to the news for those that have had their fill of Clive Palmer etc…

HYBPA still a flop – 408K at 8.30 after a 1.04m lead in is pathetic.

  13. C’mon people watch X Factor, it’s much better than all the other reality shows on now and deserves to get much more viewers because it is when average Australians become stars not like The Voice where just professional singers sing on the show and dont go anywhere and we never here from them again.

  14. Maybe to early to tell but all of channel 7 shows seem to have slipped could this be the boycott that people suggested due to APTCH be axed. Trying times ahead for 7 i would say….

  15. Yeah got to say I loves Family Feud last night. Its a game show I can play at home, have a laugh with my partner and don’t have to think about like the other two. Nightly news offerings from 9 and 7 just do not appeal to me anymore (I have The Project now) so really glad to have an alternative for 6pm. Grant did well, although he has a lot of haters on this site, he also has a lot of fans as well. Im not a fan but do enjoy him, never seen him on any of his other shows as they never appealed to me at all. He’s far better than McGuire.

  16. Family Feud wasn’t bad last night, although I much prefer Million Dollar Minute. Very, very simple, sure that’s what people are looking for at that time of day but after a while simple gets boring. Will be interesting if it holds it’s numbers.

  17. I’m glad I was wrong on the X-Factor Masterchef challenge. Good news for 10. Little by little.

My wife said Family Fued was terrible. Very 70’s kitsch. Can’t wait to see it now.

  18. Everybody who knows me knows I’m very anti-X Factor. Long story. But I’m hoping this trend continues and people suddenly get the picture that despite what Seven make the show out to be with their millions of dollars in advertising, it’s just… not great.
