Airdate: Doctor Who: “Deep Breath”

Attention Whovians: Set your alarm (or your PVR) for 4:50am Sunday August 24.

2014-08-14_1650Peter Capaldi’s movie-length debut in Doctor Who “Deep Breath” will screen first at 4.50am AEST on Sunday 24 August. The early morning premiere will be a “simulcast” with the UK screening.

It will then be available on iview throughout the day before its evening broadcast at 7.40pm  (ANZAC Girls will air at 9pm on August 24). Ahead of the series return, ABC will screen an exclusive interview with Peter Capaldi and Julia Zemiro, filmed in Sydney this week.

When Julia Met the Doctor  Wednesday, 20th August, at 8pm.
Filmed in Sydney during the World Tour, the 30-minute interview will explore Peter’s experiences playing the Doctor so far, his relationship with the character over the years and the challenges in taking on a role of such global cultural significance. Julia will also explore Peter’s TV and film career – from his first acting role in the film Local Hero to the foul-mouthed and manipulative Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It.

This spectacular episode reunites the newly regenerated Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and returning companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) with series regulars and fan favourites The Paternoster Gang – Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart) and Strax (Dan Starkey) – in a pulse-racing adventure. 
When the Doctor arrives in Victorian London he finds a dinosaur rampant in the Thames and a spate of deadly spontaneous combustions. Who is the new Doctor and will Clara’s friendship with him survive as they embark on a terrifying mission into the heart of an alien conspiracy? The Doctor has changed. It’s time you knew him.

  1. Or some people might just set their PVR’s to record it at 4:50am and watch at a time in the morning, afternoon or evening before the &:30pm showing. Given what David has said about the survey on this site and the way time-shifting times are slanting, that is a very probable occurrence.

  2. @TheGedemondan & @Craig, HD would be great, and even better if the ABC like the BBC could screen it without the blessed marketing graffiti stain of the watermark! As per usual, will be sourcing elsewhere other than the rubbish picture quality of ABC iView or ABC TV.

  3. @dshan – clearly some are, at least this way die-hard fans can watch it early. I wake up early when some of the F1 round start at 5am or earlier.

    Maybe they will have Who parties watch old eps all night, then fall asleep during the new one at 5am LOL
