Catalyst up, SBS World News down on Thursday.

Ratings: It was a low-ratings Thursday, especially for SBS World News, but Nine took the night.

2014-08-15_0954Overall it was another low-rating Thursday, but bear in mind today’s numbers are further compounded by staggered schedules on Nine due to NRL.

It’s worth noting that Catalyst did well for ABC, perhaps as viewers hunted out alternatives. Meanwhile SBS World News which has had some pretty ordinary numbers lately was one of the channel’s weakest performers last night, at just 112,000 viewers.

Nine network won the night with a 31.9% share then Seven 26.3%, ABC and TEN both on 17.7% and SBS 6.4%.

Nine News (1.07m / 990,000) topped the night for Nine then ACA (865,000), The Footy Show (701,000), Thursday Night NRL (629,000 in 2 cities), Hot Seat (589,000) and The Block (525,000 in 3 cities).

Seven News (1.00m / 953,000) was best for Seven then Home and Away (802,000), Hercules the Human Bear (587,000), Million Dollar Minute (524,000) and Movie: Ted (380,000).

Catalyst (842,000) had a strong night on ABC. ABC News (718,000), 7:30 (699,000), The Time of our Lives (638,000), QI (380,000) and The Dreamhouse (336,000) followed.

The Bachelor (639,000) was best on TEN. The Project was 576,000 / 421,000, TEN Eyewitness News was 421,000, Law and Order: SVU was 408,000 / 360,000.

Heston’s Great British Food (311,000) led SBS ONE. Shane Delia’s Spice Journey was 285,000, Destination Flavour Down Under was 250,000, Masters of Sex was 119,000 and SBS World News was just 112,000.

ABC2’s Charlie and Lola led multichannels at 262,000.

  1. @JimboJones It’s extraordinary how taste differs particularly when it comes to comedy. I’m watching Die On Your Feet because I think it’s so bad it’s good, like The Room. It’s not often I notice how poor the lighting is on a tv show! Heck TV1 were involved and didn’t even air it!

  2. Another fan of Time of our Lives here. Justine is exceptionally good in this. Hope to see another season in 2015. Also loved her work in Tangle, recently re-screened on Foxtel.

  3. I concur with my esteemed fellow commenters Angela and mason on Time of Our Lives. Justine deserves a Logie nod or AACTA as Claudia did for Ser 1. I am a bit in love with Ms Clarke in this show. I agree that Michelle Vergara Moore is not up to the high standard of the other leads. It has also been a real pleasure to watch Stephen Curry shine in this. It is beautifully written too.

  4. Agree with @mason about Time Of Our Lives.
One of the few decent dramas of this genre on telly.
Outstanding acting from some well known faces.
Yes, Justine Clarke is a standout and Claudia Karvan is excellent as usual.
The only weak link is the actress who plays Chai – a bit wooden I think.

Really hope to see a Season 3 next year.

  5. A shame really, regarding SBS World News. I much prefer watching this as compared with the predominantly Australian focused news and repeated news stories throughout the entire day from the other networks.

  6. The Time of Our Lives was good last night. It is a bit plodding but I really look forward to it. It has a realism to it that I like. Justine Clarke steals every scene she’s in, and that’s a lot of scenes. I hope it returns. Catalyst was terrifc last night, can’t wait for part 2 next week.
No commercial TV at all last night, I feel like my parents.

  7. Wow, Neighbours must have been low last night for the top multi-channel show to be a children’s show on 262k. I think Neighbours has been really good lately in story line and with new and old characters visiting. The truth about Paige was finally reveled after three months, was good that they didn’t rush it. I really like Morgana O’Reilly too, I wasn’t sure at first but she has grown on. Hopefully she sticks around for more than 12 months.
The Daniel Robinson character is painful and awkward to watch. He’s such a forgettable character and his lines are so lame and namby pampy, and Amber is just so annoying, both Turner kids need to move back to Mt Isa actually.
