TEN may re-open book on This is Your Life

Mike Munro may open his big red book on Network TEN.

mike-munroTEN is mulling the idea of reviving This is Your Life, according to a report today.

Apparently buoyed by the response to Family Feud simulcast, TEN is turning to the past for its future. Television is cyclical after all….

TEN also has Mike Munro in its stable, who hosted the show for many years after Mike Willesee.

This is Your Life last appeared on Nine for a brief stint hosted by Eddie McGuire in 2011 (Deborra-Lee Furness anyone?).

There were also rumours of Seven reviving the series in 2008. From memory Nine had the rights to the title even when it wasn’t in production, so it isn’t clear if that will prove a sticking point here.

News Corp also states TEN is researching audience interest in a revival of Thank God You’re Here, Australian Idol and -surely not- Young Talent Time  (I think we need a few more years before that’s even worth researching).

  1. I’d rather they re-jig It’s A Knockout. The last incarnation – even though, ironically, with all the physical activity going on it was a one hour fast food advertisement – was not too bad as light entertainment. Whether Brad McEwen would want to do it again might be debatable. Maybe a James and Nuala project if they are still on the payroll?

  2. Bring back Idol, Talkin Bout Your Generation and Good News Week.

When these shows were on channel 10 ratings were alot higher.

However, idol does need some relevant judges who are in the industry today and get new captains on generation

  3. Why doesn’t 10 look at bringing back The Panel?? Although, maybe it’s too similar to The Project these days..??? Still one of my all time favourite 10 shows though.

  4. @Russ_14 Mike is still with TEN, he even presented (from what I saw from the promo) some of Mothers Who Murder which was on last night. Natarsha Belling posted on Twitter that she was only covering the weekend news for 3 weekends.

  5. Interestingly, they had a Blankety Blanks segment on Studio ten yesterday which made me wonder if they were considering bringing it back. Obviously not.

  6. I would like to see Blankety Blanks be given a go. I reckon Rove as a host could pull that off but they really need a good quality of celeb’s and joke tellers.
I know Graham Kennedy owed the show but it would be worth a try. We need more light entertainment in my view. Something you can start watching half way through and still be involved.

  7. TGYH – yes, definitely! One of the higher rated shows in Sunday (in 50 Years Young). This is your life – yes, as I am a part of a whole segment that never saw the original, and idol – yes only if they air it before the voice (i.e. When TBL was on this year). YTT – no!

  8. I’d love to see This Is Your Life and Thank God You’re Here come back. They were great shows. Also would love to see Offspring and Puberty Blues come back too. Don’t know about Young Talent Time though. TEN tried it once before and it didn’t work.

  9. Definitely get Thank God You’re Here back, seeing it in the 50 Years Ten Show made me wonder why they don’t bring shows like that back, even if they run old Repeats on ONE for a few months before it returns I’ll watch them.

  10. Ten, can’t afford any more risks with new shows. The fact that they commissioned shows in the past with limited audience range is different story.

Renewing old shows is worth considering. FF while I would not say it is a hit as Ten refer to it, The younger demo ratings are impressive…a new generation!

Idol is worth considering providing competition is not strong. It’s traditional slot of finishing in November could work. In 2013 November was very ordinary with no big TV finales to finish the year off.

Your Life – I have always liked it…and would like to see it again…but that is personal.

God Your Here – Great show….and should never have left TEN. It was the bucks Seven paid that got it to Seven…and it was the wrong demo for Seven. So yes TEN…..Bring this one back.

  11. You could resurrect Idol, if only to help hasten the inevitable deaths of The Voice and X Factor, but it won’t be a long term saviour for Ten. YTT = no way.

Thank God You’re Here = a no brainer. The FTA commercial networks don’t show enough Australian comedy so there’s a demand not being met. I think they’re wrong on Blankety Blanks too but it would need the right host – Micallef or Will Anderson?

This is Your Life would need to be refreshed to make it interesting to a new generation of viewers. It’s very old fashioned TV and would probably skew older than Ten would like.

  12. I can’t see myself watching any of these shows. There are too many singing contests on TV already, we don’t need Idol back to add to the overload.
I rarely watched This is Your Life, only because Nine never advertised who was the celebrity of the week, so you had to watch it to find out – knowing that, I never bothered. As for TGYH and YTT, no thanks.
Why not bring back The $20 Challenge, it was pretty well like Australia’s first attempt at TAR.

  13. Is Mike Munro even still with TEN? Because he hasn’t been seen on Ten news for a few weeks… And for what Tarsh has posted on social media, I think she’s back doing the Weekend News.

  14. TEN its no wonder you are failing in all aspects right now. Stop The do-overs and go find something new and exciting. We don’t need Idol. We have enough singing shows as it is and they’ve been saturating the markets.

If there was one show i’d love to see return it is Thank God You’re Here. But Idol is not the show to return.

  15. TEN is being smart here. They are wanting to revive shows that have worked successfully in the past rather than create a brand new show and see it fail.

Now we know reviving some shows like Young Talent Time don’t always work because Australians are over reality or just singing shows altogether.

Putting This Is Your Life back on tv would be a smart move. More eyeballs on 10 could help them launch new shows and just get more viewers for their programs.

Also i would be ecstatic if they brought back Australian Idol but they need to fill the judges chairs with people in the industry today. I’m sure they could find some talented Aussie singers to fill them like Jessica Mauboy, Ricki-Lee, Shannon Noll (i know all past idol people) and not get some US singer who is only here for the money. We know the winner’s single is only released in Australia and so if we have Aussie judges…

  16. The last reboot of Young Talent Time failed because of the songs, no one thought to go back to the original songs they sang, in my opinion if they did a reboot, get the kids to sing songs people know,go back to the sixties, seventies and eighties music, not today,s dorf dorf noise which passes as music.

And TEN if you are going to simulcast put them on at different times, which I suppose is not really a simulcast, but I have turned off TEN now because of this and I really liked the 5pm news.

  17. I would be very interested in Thank God You’re Here returning – that is one of the best shows Ten (later 7) had ever produced! Bring it back no questions asked!!

As for This is Your Life – not so sure about this one. Can’t see it being ratings gold for 10. But might fill the gaps.

  18. I thought about this earlier in the week. Australian Idol is just the show TEN needs. The key would be to air it early on in the year, perhaps instead of the Biggest Loser. If it airs after The Voice and the X Factor or at the same time, it’s unlikely to do very well.
