TEN confirms I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

Celebs and wanna-bes will be tested in the bush in the first local version of a reality franchise coming to TEN.

2014-09-07_0039TEN has confirmed a local version of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here for 2015.

The series sees celebs (including some who only just make the grade) living together in the bush without luxuries, and facing extreme challenges designed to test them.

The UK version, filmed in Murwillumbah, has notched up 13 seasons now with hosts Ant & Dec.

The Australian edition by ITV Studios Australia has been pitched to local networks for some time now, but TEN has taken the bait.

Network Ten Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is a big, noisy and spectacular show for all the family and an incredible live reality television event.

“It will be a massive production, set in an amazing location in Africa. We cannot wait to get our celebrities in the jungle.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is a smash hit in the UK, where its most recent season launched with 13.5 million viewers, making it the UK’s most watched entertainment show,” she said.

“We are very excited to be bringing I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! to Australians and we know Australians will be excited to have their own version of one of the funniest, most engaging and most interactive television shows in the world.”

ITV Studios Australia Managing Director, Anita Jacoby, said: “Network Ten is backing an international success story with I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

“After 13 huge seasons in the UK and eight massive seasons in Germany – and with both countries now gearing up for their next series – I’m a Celebrity is one of the longest-running, biggest and most successful formats in the world.”

TEN also recently confirmed Shark Tank for 2015.

  1. The original news.com.au article says it is to be filmed in Sth Africa – Kruger National Park

As hosts, what about Lehmo & Rove?

Really loving Lehmo in Utopia at the moment, and I think they both are good ad libbers that would be suited to replicating Ant & Decs humour. (kinda like how James Valentine made Come Dine with Me Australia his own and not tried to copy Dave Lamb)

  2. @radiC00l – Bingle premiered at 925,000 before dropping to 786k for the second ep. It then bounced around between 650k and 725k for a few weeks before ending on a whimper with 387k.

If it was anything other than a flop, you’d think that Ten would have commissioned a second season by now. It’s not as if they have much else on.

  3. I assume Ten will be sending your celebs over here and putting them in a field next to the M6!

Hopefully it works for them – they need a bit of a break. I guess to the UK version will need a new crew this year – usually they rely on many of the BB crew for filming our series in November but they’ll clash this time.

  4. Good to see Ten investing in some new content. Masterchef and The Bachelor have done well for them this year in the 7:30pm slot but outside of those shows they’ve had very little new content. Ten were doing reality tv way before 7 and 9 and hopefully they can reclaim their reality tv mantle.

  5. @eastwest101 – Lara Bingle rated quite well actually (close to the 1m mark), much better than Brin. The Shire was a disaster (mainly due to casting) but all channels have those. At least ch10 is doing something – rather than bringing back tired formats (eg big brother) or flogging to death existing ones (talent shows, dancing with the stars).

  6. RE eastwest 101: Bingle and The Shire were not meant to be “big, noisy and spectacular”.

That term is for BB (when it was Ten), TBL, Idol, MasterChef and The Bachelor.

  7. I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here ” I love it ” Ant & Dec are very entertaining, and make the show with their funny commentary, people should watch it.

  8. Well it’s good to see Ten lately putting themselves out there and taking further risks, hoping this will work for them- if it does then great if not they tried. Am liking the new energy Ten really enjoying Studio 10 on the network.

  9. I wonder what happened to their last “big, noisy and spectacular” show ? The Shire and Bingle anyone?

Car crashes are also big noisy and spectacular….

Ten programming – so much shareholder value to destroy, so little time!

  10. While it is nice that they are experimenting with new programming I don’t think they have it with IACGMOOH but then again it would be cheep to do because the show is set up and all they need is host and contestants.

  11. And again.. here come the naysayers.

Good on TEN for trying something different to the other networks. I’d rather this than yet another singing show! Who cares if the ‘celebrities’ are former reality contestants, soapy stars and sports personalities. That kind of casting has been working for DWTS for how many seasons now?

  12. Yay! Should be good duh!
Would Grant Denyer host? I can’t see any of their other presenters/newsreaders hosting except maybe Ash London and Scott Tweedy from “The Loop”. Would own a Saturday or Sunday timeslot.

  13. — TEN Programming Chief Beverley McGarvey told News Corp, “We won’t have it on the schedule in February, definitely not.” —

Is she not referring to Idol in the context of that article?
