Who says Community TV is at 6,000 viewers?
Some titles are averaging up to 27,000 viewers.

Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull referenced a 6,000 national number for the Community TV sector as part of his announcement that the broadcasters must shift online.
But Channel 31 Melbourne has given TV Tonight OzTAM data for the month of August that suggests otherwise.
The top-rating show for August was a tie between Its Japan, Man and Kick Off -both of which averaged 27,000 viewers in the Melbourne metro market.
The Lighthorseman movie averaged 22,000 viewers.
Vasili’s Garden was 18,000.
Classic Restos and That’s Fishing was 12,000.
Postcards from the Bush, OzFish TV, Speaker TV and That’s Good for Footy were all 12,000.
Regional Italian Cuisine was 11,000.
Any that aired nationally would have increased their total average audiences.
C31 Operations Manager Matt Field told TV Tonight, “We are having to continually make the point to the Minister that CTV is not about ratings – the three permanent licencees recently had our Broadcast Licences renewed to 2019 by the ACMA and ratings was not a factor in their decision.”

Community TV – Yes!!! TV Shopping – No!!!
Community TV is a far worthier occupier the TV broadcasting spectrum than those wasteful “shopping” stations that push nothing but worthless rubbish and contribute nothing whatsoever to our TV “landscape”. Get rid of them all and give the frequencies over to Community TV, free, gratis!
Turnbull suggested in his Radio National interview that in order to improve our audiences we should look at our “programming mix”. In other words axe the content that brings the average down to 6000 – presumably multicultural content, program’s by the disabled, etc. An extraordinary demonstration of how little he understands the purpose of community media.
I also enjoy community television, I stumbled across TVS a few years ago and I am glad I did. Classic Restos, Vasilis Garden are a couple of favorites I also catch the odd moving Fathers Little Dividend a couple of weeks ago a recent example. Move it or loose a favourite with a relative who is a bit house bound.
Community TV provides a unique platform for diverse local content and has provided a way into the industry for hundreds of people…
If we have channels like GOLD and Aspire etc, why cant they put community TV onto one of them, maybe even get rid of a couple.
Maybe it is because , no it is because they want to sell off that spectrum, but do not want to fund the digital switch!
Turnbull stated his figure was prime time average.
Of course there are shows that rate more, and shows that rate less, than the primetime average.
its not often I watch community tv, but I don’t mind the occasional Vasili Garden.
Good to see an insight of these ratings. We rarely have a chance to see them
@tomothyd – that 27k is for Melbourne only. Not sure if Wake Up ever got 27k in a single city.
You guys jest – but 27,000 viewers nationally would almost get a program into the Top 50 on PayTV or a FTA multichannel.
Vasili’s Garden…I like…I watch.
27k, that’s almost as good as Wake Up.
27,000 – thats getting close to some of Ten’s ratings …. 🙂 ….
