Airdate: The Fall

Irish crime series starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan will have its Free to Air premiere on SBS.

TheFall_02Acclaimed Irish series The Fall will have its Free to Air premiere on SBS later this month.

Starring Gillian Anderson (The X Files, Great Expectations), and Jamie Dornan (50 Shades of Grey, Once Upon a Time), the five-part psychological thriller examines the lives of two hunters; one a ruthless serial killer and the other a high-powered detective superintendent brought in to catch him.

This was nominated at the UK’s National Television Awards and BAFTA Awards and won at the Irish Film and Television Awards. A second season is coming soon to BBC First.

Set in Northern Ireland, the series follows Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Anderson) from the London Metropolitan Police who arrives in Belfast to help with the investigation of a series of as yet unconnected murders. Convinced these crimes are all linked to the same person, under Gibson’s lead the hostile local detectives and pathologist Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) explore the case from every angle, uncovering an intricate web of lives entangled by the murders.

Chillingly hiding behind the façade of loving husband and father, Jamie Dornan brings to life Paul Spector a grief counsellor by day and meticulous violent killer by night. Revealed from the outset Spector is on a killing spree stalking and preying on women in and around Belfast.

Revealing how a modern, top level murder investigation team works when it comes up against every policeman’s worst nightmare, this rich and complex thriller is less of a “whodunit” and more of a cat-and-mouse game. Gaining in intensity as the drama unfolds; this is a hunt that will challenge the investigative skills of Gibson and her team to the limit as they race to catch Spector – before he succeeds in killing his next victim.

Double episode premiere 8:30pm Thursday 23 October on SBS ONE.
