Archie Panjabi to leave The Good Wife

Kalinda is set to depart as Archie Panjabi signs a deal tipped to deliver her own series.

2014-10-16_2345She’s one of the best supporting actors on the screen, but Archie Panjabi is set to exit The Good Wife.

Panjabi, who plays Kalinda Sharma, has signed a talent deal with 20th Century TV and is expected to lead her own series.

“Archie is an Emmy award-winning dramatic actress, and rightly so,” said Sharon Klein, 20th’s executive vice president of casting. “Her work on The Good Wife has been extraordinary, and the time has come for her to star in a project of her own. We couldn’t be happier that it will be with us.”

Good Wife showrunners Robert and Michelle King added, “Archie is an amazing actress who helped build Kalinda from the ground up as an enigmatic, powerful and sexy character. It’s been a pleasure to write for her, and we’ll be sad to see her go; but we still have her for the rest of season six, so let’s not exhaust our goodbyes yet. We look forward to meeting all the wonderful new characters Archie brings to the screen. But either way, we’re keeping the boots.”

It’s not yet clear how Kalinda will be written out, but given Josh Charles’ character was suddenly killed off it would be unlikely to feature another key death so soon.

  1. I like the idea of the character of Kalinda, but I find Archie wooden in the extreme. Her facial expression never changes, best described as inscrutable I suppose. She’s rarely shown any flashes of personality.

How she could have won awards for that character is beyond me.

  2. Mellie, I agree with you. Kalinda was a strong character that was ruined by a very silly storyline, which is why Australia doesn’t watch anymore! I really like the show, but Carey in prison? Silly storyline again.

  3. Well this doesn’t help the rumors that her and Julianna Margulies have some kinda tiff between them.
They haven’t shared a single scene together since the beginning of Season 4. Their characters have only talked onscreen over the phone since then. The rumor is that they won’t even be on set together.
Or maybe this is completely unrelated and I’m reading too much into gossip lol

  4. Will definitely miss her. She’s one of the reasons i watch. Still i have a feeling the show may end come the end of this season anyway. If not this season then definitely next. Don’t get me wrong its a great show but sometimes they need to end. It has struggled on Sunday that is for sure.

  5. Kalinda was underutilised with the introduction of Robin, death of Will and new firm plots. Now that Diane is taking her to Florrick Argos Lockard hopefully that will change. More interaction between Kalinda and Alicia is a good thing.

As for next season, The Good Wife is no certainty to be renewed. CBS has struggled to get new dramas up especially on Sunday nights but The Good Wife has survived so far.
