The Block fakes EPA expert

Nine concedes an 'environmental protection authority' rep was actually a scientist hired by the show.

2014-10-20_0033The Block has been caught out with a “fake” Environment Protection Authority representative checking up on its fuel tank found underneath the Glasshouse site.

About 15,000 litres of fuel was discovered in the tank in one of the show’s most dramatic storylines.

While ‘EPA representative Chris’ was depicted on the show, Nine confirmed his was a case of “misidentification” and an “editing error”.

EPA senior media adviser Terry Sefton told Stonnington Leader the agency had not inspected the site for at least the past 10 years.

In the episode host Scott Cam said: “Back on The Block, the rep from the EPA has arrived and the news is not good”.

A Nine spokesperson confirmed, “He was, in fact, an environmental scientist hired by The Block Glasshouse to help us liaise with the EPA.”

  1. I’m shocked it was even a genuine “scientist” and not just an actor or a member of the production crew that they stuck in front of the camera for a bit of dramatic license.

  2. What a surprise! I did notice during the episode that when they first started digging and found the tank all the sand around it was loose and looked like it had just been put there. I am pretty sure that the authorities would have been very aware of that tank, after all the building was already there. Scripted reality tv!
