Renewed: So You Think You Can Dance (USA)

Long-running dance contest has been renewed for a 12th in the US -with a new twist.

2014-11-18_1035So You Think You Can Dance (USA) has been renewed for a 12th season by FOX -and it comes with a new twist.

The 2015 series will feature dancers in two teams — stage: contemporary, ballet, jazz or tap — and street: hip-hop, animation or breaking.

Their top 20 will consist of 10 dancers from each category. When the series advances to its “live” format, the top 20 will be challenged in a variety of styles, and work with world-renowned choreographers.

“The competition is going to be much more exciting for viewers and even more demanding for the dancers,” co-creator and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said. “Dancers from different genres have always been competitive with each other and we’ve found a great way to harness that to bring out the absolute best performances in the best dancers across the country.”

The series airs in Australia on ELEVEN.

  1. I think this is a terrible idea. Yes, the show needs some changes made, but this “us vs them” mentality between dancers and then forcing there to be 10 hip-hop, crunk etc dancers in the top 20 is too much, and frankly unfair. It should be the best dancers, regardless of genre. The problem with the show IMHO isn’t the talent, or the lack of drama between contestant – it’s the judges. Nigel & Mary have played their roles for 11 years and some fresh perspective would be appreciated (and perhaps quieter without Mary’s incessant screaming!). Bring in some new judges with respected qualifications and it may help.
