  1. I used to be a big fan of football and even played to a reasonably high level, but my interest in the game has faded since the money-men wrenched the sport away from free-to-air. I haven’t watched any Asian Cup games so far and to be honest I’d rather go down to the park and watch a local league match.

  2. Yes, I find the ABC not providing Australian group matches live, is a complete disaster for the sport. 235,000 for the opening match last Friday on Foxtel, and 336,000 on Tuesday. Given its non-ratings with little competition, the ABC would have a far greater reach. And surely you want viewers watching from the get-go, with viewers building viewers throughout the comp.
Really the ABC should not have been bidding against SBS to begin with.

  3. @tvf ABC only broadcasts the group matches that are in your state to your local radio (ABC 774 in Melbourne for you). The other matches that are not in your state you can listen to on ABC Grandstand Digital Radio

  4. Just about every other nation in this tournament have group matches live on free-to-air in thier countries. Yet we’re hosting it and all we get are 2 hour delayed Australia group matches and a pitiful highlights package buried late at night. This sport will not go anywhere with these clowns at the FFA killing the code by giving big games to exclusively to pay tv. No other sport in their right mind would would treat their fans like this.

  5. FFA have missed a massive promotional opportunity by not having the group stages live on free to air and deserve the criticism for such a poor decision.

Regarding radio Saturday nights game was live on ABC 774. Tuesday turned on ABC 774 and it wasn’t on. It’s bad enough that the games were delayed on free to air and then one has to figure out which ABC radio station to listen to it. Watched the big bash instead.
