Latest complaint about editing on The Block…

Deja vu for The Block as another contestant gripes over editing -but will it be worth it come auction day?

You have to wonder whether contestants who enter The Block have ever seen the show before or read any of the ensuing media.

This week two more contestants have taken aim over selective editing by producers -a repeated criticism of the show.

Perhaps it’s all a ploy to generate publicity, but Adelaide general manager, Tim (pictured, left) has told AAP he is concerned his professional reputation, might suffer when he is negatively depicted on the show.

“We are not being portrayed in a great light at the moment,” he said.

“A lot of the customers who you deal with, they all watch the show because they’re excited to see people they know on TV and suddenly they go ‘oh, I didn’t realise they were like that’.

“That is really disappointing.

“Lots of scenarios like that have happened throughout the show and it will be interesting to see whether they want to make us out to look like the a***holes this year or whether they show us for what we really are and what we’ve said.”

Last year on Fan vs Faves contestant Steve O’Donnell criticised the way he was edited on the show, writing on Facebook, “I’m super sick of the story arc beign (sic) that I’m in some way mentally deficient.”

But by the end of the season, he and partner Chantelle won a record breaking $736,000. Not a bad pay off for a storyline, really.

As judge Shaynna Blaze once told TV Tonight, “If you want to walk away with a big cheque in your hand, you have to realise it’s not going to be light and fluffy the whole way.”

  1. The block has reached its limit, Tired of seeing block heads, eating, waking up in morning, in car eating.
Talking about nothing, The program should help with building suggestions, design choice. Total time spent tonights Block in room design was 4 mins, rest of time was just Junk. who cares what the order in Mac Donald ‘s, Not worth watching this program.

  2. @ilovetv: Given 24/7 filming, anything said or done can be broadcast out of context to make the contestants into heroes or zeroes. You have no idea what story arcs the editors will create from the footage. Very difficult and exhausting to censor yourself all the time.

  3. I know all reality tv is manufactured but I found the block was particularly guilty of this which is why I stopped watching after series 3. It no longer seems to be about the building but about conflict……time to rest the concept for a few years I think, the ratings are also reflecting that people are tiring of it. Channel 9 can’t keep flogging a dying horse!
