  1. The role of a Police Captain in a procedural cop show full of witty banter is to yell at them to get to work, that they don’t have enough evidence to get a warrant and of course to back off when some powerful of the Mayor doesn’t want a case investigated, while imply that the should keep going secretly. And if your two leads are White you can make their boss Black to deflect criticism. This is sent up by Brooklyn Nine-Nine with NYPD’s first Black, Gay, Gay-Married police captain.

Captain Montgomery was written more interestingly and given a role in the story of Kate’s Mother’s death. Captain Gate has been there a lot longer but all we have learnt is that she is a career officer who plays by the book and hated Castle as a result, but was eventually won over by his charm. Her going reduces the cast budget as other salaries increase and the ratings drop.

    A season where Kate…

  2. Although I don’t dislike her, I don’t think I will miss her either.
Perhaps I will see her in at least another show I am watching or will watch in future.

  3. Is there any word on if the next season will be the final season?

I agree I think Kate will at some point become the new captain and near the series final will find out she is pregnant, they all live happily ever after! Of course if Kate does get promoted we’ll get a new (likely female) detective to take her place and provide tension, not that Castle would cheat or anything.

  4. So in other words Beckett will be promoted to NYC police captain finally. Surely the plot could’ve gone in another direction rather then the inevitable one?

    • Whilst I agree with you (I also think the show will end with her falling pregnant); I think that could be the beginning of the end of the show. The captain sits in the office delegating and overseeing, not being part of the active investigations, so not really seeing how this will work.

    • Seems like it, personally I would have liked to see that happen in the series finale, a bit like how in NYPD Blue Andy Sipowicz finally got to be squad commander in the second last episode of the show.
