Guy Sebastian rehearses at Eurovision

Guy Sebastian stages a song and dance act, with backing vocalists, six street lamps and neon.

Guy Sebastian has now had his first rehearsal at Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna.

Here’s how the official Eurovision website has described the staging:

Even before the rehearsal started, it was pretty apparent that the Australian performance was going to be something special. The backstage crew wheeled on six street lamps, all lined with red neon lights. Attached to the base of these were spotlights, which beamed out into the hall impressively.

The big LED screen at the back shows a moving road, quickly transforming into a nighttime cityscape. Spotlights in red and orange colours dance along to the rhythm of the song, turning the arena into a disco.

The overarching theme here is night with red, blue, yellow and orange shades dominating. The song finishes with the stage structure lighting up in golden colours.

So this is it; the big moment for Australia. Watch the rehearsal by Guy Sebastian below. Great vocals, a bit more contact with the camera would be nice. Guy and his backings are working on a tiny space throughout the whole song, but due to amazing moving backdrops, they manage to keep the attention. We are biased, but Australia will be a big hitter in this contest!

  1. At the other end of the spectrum, from what I’ve read on the fan sites, the UK entry is shaping up to be a big old mess. Shame, it’s a really catchy tune. Good Luck to Guy. I don’t see the Tele voters and jurors of Europe handing us the win, but I’m sure he’ll do well.

  2. Good evening, this is Vienna calling. I was able to see Guy’s rehearsals and maybe I am biased but the act is very impressive. As he mentioned in the press conference he has the flu at the moment, so vocally probably wasn’t at full strength but the final is still almost a week away so he’s got some recovery time

Also saw him tonight on the red carpet at the official opening.

Anyone you speak to from Europe are so pleased to have Australia involved and they all speak very highly of Guy. He’s been a great representative for Australia.
