TV Tonight hears whispers that US singer Chris Isaak and Brit James Blunt will join a revamped X Factor judging panel, alongside Dannii Minogue and a returning Guy Sebastian.

Blunt is best known for his laid-back pop “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover” while Chris Isaak found fame with “Wicked Game” before expanding into acting.

Guy Sebastian previously judged the Seven talent show from 2010 – 2012 before returning to his music career. He will represent Australia at Eurovision in May.

This week Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Redfoo and Ronan Keating all confirmed they were exiting the show in order to focus on other projects, including X Factor NZ for Bassingthwaighte.

Producers concluded preliminary auditions last month but continues to host online auditions ahead of the first filmed auditions with the new judges.

  1. Guy Sebastian excellent… Ricki-Lee Coulter would be ideal! Both James & Chris have street credit, but agree they are about 14 years too late to be relevant to the teen audience.

  2. i’m still saying get Jessica Mauboy on that panel quick smart!! keep james blunt as he’s still relevant in the music business and guy sebastian too as he’s australian and we love him and jessica mauboy

  3. James Blunt would be hilarious
    BUT
Why don’t Ch7 buck the trend and get 3 female judges and 1 male judge? Why hasn’t that happened yet??
And I have to agree with a few of my fellow commentators about Ed Sheeran- if he’s here in November, then surely he mist be involved somehow. No one just “decides” to tour Australia twice in one year.

  4. If this is true plain and simple- It’s not going to work it needs to be something wow!! & new host too! I don’t mind Guy but I thought he left to concentrate on his music? unless he missed the income. Producers need to remember they are up against the Voice which I think I’ll stick too.
X-factor need to be very careful ratings will drop even more.

  5. As all the judges are different in their own rights, this format might just work, don’t down people before you know what they are like as mentors, people might be very surprised and new blood could be a good thing.

  6. One would think Guy would give it a miss to capitalise on Eurovision. He is a great judge though. Chris Isaak would be awesome. He is funny and talented and loves Australia. Not sure about James. Very talented but maybe too nice to be a judge. They lack a tough judge.

  7. Seems like an odd list to me. I get Guy returning but James and Chris seem a bit too similar to me, also not sure how much of an audience they would bring in.

  8. I don’t buy RedFoo’s statement on his future on the show. He was most likely sacked because he was part of a song which offended a lot of people mainly women. So he was just negative publicity that the show or the Network didn’t need. As for others they probably needed a change Ronan was their from the beginning of the shows time on Seven.

  9. I can’t say I’m enthused with those three choices. I like Guy but if you’re going to revamp, might as well get three new faces in.

  10. I hope it’s true Guy is returning! But nooooo to those other two. If Seven want the show’s ratings to improve then find better judges that the kids of today know.

  11. Very interesting. Going the 3 guys instead of the usual 2 and 2. It would be good to see Guy back and James is an interesting choice Chris Isaak? I can’t stand him! Hope its not true about him.

    1. Oh, I reckon Chris would be great. He seems like a good sport who doesn’t take himself too seriously.
Have always been a fan – love his music and voice.
Each to their own, I guess.
Do agree though that a lot of younger viewers wouldn’t have a clue who he was.
