2 couples pursue romance after Married at First Sight

It's a 50% strike rate for Nine as 2 of 4 couples indicate they are still together after giving their final decision.

Two of the four couples paired in Nine’s hit series Married at First Sight were still together two months after the season ‘final decision’ was filmed.

Zoe & Alex from Melbourne and Sydney’s Lachlan & Clare vowed to continue their relationships, while third couple James & Michelle also expressed a desire to continue, but had split within weeks of the finale.

A fourth couple, Roni and Michael, had split before the final episode.

But the 50% strike rate by the show’s “experts” is a good result for Nine, despite the fact none of the couples were legally married as the show suggested.

Based on a Danish format, Married at First Sight has pulled good ratings for Nine with a second season already calling for new applicants.

It has also had its share of tabloid headlines, including initial controversy over its format, leaks about splits and a rumour that James is pursuing a romance with Roni from a different pairing.

It’s not clear how long ago the show’s ‘2 month’ post-mortem was filmed, but A Current Affair is teasing more behind the scenes details tonight.

  1. This has been the surprise show of the year for me. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next season. All 4 couples were interesting to watch and great to see 2 of them still together a couple of months down the track.

Based on the numbers it’s clear to me that new reality ideas that have merit will be rewarded. Hopefully this might start a trend of new shows which don’t just fill the prime time slots with singing, renovating and cooking shows…Yep I know, I’m dreaming!
