The Block team wins Reno Rumble

No surprises that a Nine-aligned couple has beaten former Seven contestants on Nine's renovation series.

Former Block contestants Ayden and Jess have won Reno Rumble.

The Gold Coast couple scored 143 points in the grand final, defeating former House Rules contestants Carly and Leighton on 141.5 points.

They win $100,000 and a new car with $50,000 going to their chosen charity, Two Little Boys to Avene.

The finalists renovated two 100-year-old houses in Seddon, in Melbourne’s west.

The win by The Block team follows a staggering $665,000 pocketed at The Block Triple Threat auction in April.

“I can’t believe how much our life has changed in such a short space of time,” the couple said.

“We were like any other average Aussie couple struggling to save for a mortgage to buy a home. We had debts and we couldn’t get ahead, let alone think about building a house for our family, but this has changed our lives.

“We did Reno Rumble because we wanted to give back something following our incredible result on The Block. To be able to present a cheque for $50,000 to our charity, Two Little Boys to Avene, and renovate homes for some deserving homeowners is an amazing feeling.”

The series started out strongly for Nine, before House Rules overtook it in the ratings. But observers suggest its job of diminishing Seven’s renovation series did the job.

Nine cheekily cast the series with ex-contestants from its rival competition, but House Rules host Johanna Griggs had always predicted Nine would not let the ex-Seven participants win the series.

Runners-up Carly and Leighton take home a $50,000 prize. Their charity Kids Under Cover benefit with $25,000 plus an extra $10,000 won during a challenge.

“It’s been the main driver for us, to win as much money as we can for Kids Under Cover and help out other people who could only dream of renovating their home,” they said.

  1. Maybe they should do it a lil different. Get professional builders from each state and have them build the exact same house from scratch and see who gets the big tick from the judges on finish and styling. OMG l should put a patent on the idea. The twist is they build in a different state than theirs. Instead of judges the public votes the winner. All 5 houses sold after and money donated to Ronald McDonald house or similar. OMG l should patent the idea LOL

  2. They won because there house was better that’s it, wasn’t because nine wanted them to win. In fact they were on the house rules team for 3 weeks. They were the best team.
I actually enjoyed Reno rumble more then house rules, mainly because of Aidan and his awesomeness

  3. So the team that won House Rules conveniently makes the final and is conveniently beaten by a team from The Block thus proving that The Block is obviously superior to House Rules and Nine’s cash cow doesn’t lose face.

    1. aidan and jess 3 weeks ago swapped with a house rule team and the house rules team won last week, so actually house rules won, the block team was gone last week. It wasn’t bias. they had the best house. I didn’t care who won and wasn’t thinking if a house rules team wins block is worse

      1. Amen, hopefully the second season of HR and The Block and that cooking/Reno show 7 have will be the straws that break the camals back for the abundance of Reno shows.

      2. I actually like house reno shows more then Masterchef and voice. I’m not saying it’s the best thing on tv cause it’s not but u can’t watch GoT all day every day. Flash was great too. This is something good to watch in the back ground, my parents really like it, and I skip about 40 mins of ads and time wasting.
There needs to be less reality and bring back 8:30 dramas. But some reality is fine

        1. And neather of you guys are over the over done Reno shows. Already this year we have had Block, House Rules, this and it’s only June. Then we have another house rules and block. 5 different reno shows at least 4 times a week for at least 7 weeks each (yes there’s overlap)isn’t too much Reno shows for you guys? Even if one of my shows (Survivor or The Amazing Race) was on at that frequently I would think that I would be over it.

          1. I’m more over reality shows in general. Only block I watch, and I record the sunday night of house rules. I don’t watch Masterchef and stupid wedding shows. I love survivour and then I mainly watch dramas with a vpn and foxtel, like GoT, 100, flash, arrow, izombie. I watch block with my parents while having tea and skip most of the eps
