Cate Blanchett is developing a ‘high-end’ TV drama, her first TVÂ directing role.
Stateless centres on the true story of Cornelia Rau which made headlines in 2004. The young German/Australian woman escaped a frightening cult only to be trapped in a bizarre labyrinth of psychiatric and legal systems, landing her in the notorious Baxter Immigration Detention Centre.
The project is being produced by Matchbox Pictures but no broadcaster has been announced, and it isn’t clear if Blanchett will be playing Cornelia Rau.
Stateless has received funding from Screen Australia under the Story Development – High-end TV fund.
Also receiving funding is Trust, a cult-based drama based on a journalist’s mission to expose a shadowy movement surrounded by conspiracy theories and deception.
One Response
Rau’s story is fascinating, so many twists and turns, so this could be good. Small correction, though, Blanchett didn’t direct any of The Turning.
