Conservationist Lara Shannon presents a documentary The Trans-Borneo Challenge, a 25-day journey to save the orangutans in Borneo, this Saturday on Nine.

The special is the first of her Ecochick Adventures Series.

This inspiring adventure sees Lara travel over 2000 kilometres across Borneo on a mission to save the orangutans, mankind’s closest living relatives, from extinction. Before diving headfirst into Borneo’s jungle wilderness, Lara assists in the rehabilitation of local wildlife, including orangutans and sun bears.

Joining Lara on the Trans Borneo Challenge are five other women from across the globe who all share her passion and determination for conservation. They navigate through dense jungles, climb the Müller Mountain Range and cross flooded rivers as they battle the elements and an unforgiving landscape.

With up to 300 football fields of biologically diverse rainforest being cleared every hour, the women’s goal is to raise awareness about the plight of the orangutan and other endangered species facing extinction due to mass deforestation, and to reduce the production of palm oil.

Lara Shannon has appeared on Cheez TV, Saturday Disney and Totally Wild, teaching children about environmental issues, and inspired countless people to maintain a healthy and sustainable society.

Saturday, August 15, at 3.00pm on Nine.
