Be careful what you wish for.

Reports have emerged of a possible Blackadder revival after Tony Robinson confirmed he had spoken to former cast members.

The BBC comedy finished in 1989 with the apparent death of the cast in the trenches of the First World War, but Robinson -who played Baldrick- told The Sun newspaper, a revival may be on the cards.

“I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now,” he said.

“The only problem is Hugh’s (Laurie) fee. He’s a huge star now — or so he’d like to think.

“Expectations for a new series will be high because people not only remember the original, they remember who they were when it was on. It’s a big danger.”

Elsewhere he also told Radio Times, “Journalists often ask if there’s going to be another series of Blackadder, and how does anyone know that? That’s up to the people who run channels, and not performers. But when they say that, I guess I have a renewed affection for how we all were in those days. But it was in those days, rather than these days.”

The cast returned in 2000 in a skit made for the launch of the Millennium Dome and Atkinson later revived his title role on stage at a charity event in 2012.

John Lloyd, the show’s creator, told the Telegraph it was the “first he had heard” of a comeback series being in the pipeline.

He added of the cast: “Everyone has been so successful. To get them all in the same room logistically, I don’t know how we would ever achieve it.

“But one can dream.”

    1. In 2008 there were also two retrospectives, “Blackadders Most Cunning Moments” and “Blackadder The Whole Rotten Saga”. Clips and cast interviews loosely tied together with a narration by David Mitchell. The unaired pilot episode of “Black Adder”, with a slightly different cast, is on YouTube.

    1. That was the plan for season 5, the main cast were in a band in the 1960’s called the Black Adder Five. Baldrick was going to be either the drummer or roadie called Bald Rick.

The cast are a bit old to play pop starts in the 60’s now, but maybe they can be an aging band who were big in the 60’s hanging onto their former glory in the 2000’s. It might be a bit too much of a Spinal Tap rip off though
